Hey all,

My 11 year old Dyson is on the blink. I was going to get it repaired but pehaps it is time to invest in a new hoover. I have the DC05 absolute.

So ocuk - what hoovers do you have out there?

I'm looking for a similar model/type to this one:

so please let me know which hoover you would recommend.

someone was going to say it, so it might as well be me

a hoove is a specific brand

you want a vaccum cleaner

(unless you really do only want a hoover brand)

One of these.......... the midget butler attachment isn't up to much though.

On a serious note though, I've had my Henry hoover for 9 years and is about the best for the money.

If you've got £1k to spend then a Kirby hoover used to be about the best out there.

no don't want a hoover brand and we call it a hoover not a vacum cleaner

budget £150 - £200 if it is really worth it

1k on a vaccum cleaner

Well some people like to buy the best...... or are easily duped by a vaccum salesman!

Both my mum and mother-in-law bought one, they are very good but stupidly priced - at least I can borrow it whenever I like, plus it has a carpet cleaning feature as well which worked better than the industrial one I used a few years ago.

Can't go wrong with a Henry! :D

Sounds like a waste of money and it will last no longer than a good £250 one. It’s a toy for those who are easily parted with their cash.

Miele vacs are generally unburstable. Had my current one for about 4 years now, after a couple of Dysons that quickly gave up the ghost.

As long as you keep the filters clean, they just keep on going.

Can anyone recommend a good carpet cleaning vacuum thing? One that will actually get proper food stains out of the carpet? Or do I need a professional to pop around with a massive van?

One thing I've learned is that if you have carpet, get an upright . We have a Panasonic Fold n'go model which tucks away under the stairs and does a very decent job of getting pet hair off the carpet, pull along vacs tend to rely on suction to turn the brushes (if they have one) and doesn't to the job as well as a proper belt-driven unit.

actually, it's a Genericized trademark, like frisbee, heroin, sellotape or zipper.
