I'm looking to buy a new printer for my family. The current printer we have is a pile of crap. Yet, I'm having trouble finding something to replace it with and I'm afraid what I am asking does not exist :P

* Needs to be wireless 802.11b/g (Most computers in the house are laptops and everyone would love a wireless printer in the centre of the house. I'm also sick of my room being a thoroughfare. Lastly, Ethernet won't work as the router is in my room connected directly to my PC via cat5)
* Multifunction (Printer, scanner, photocopier)
* Needs to be quick and ink efficient when printing text
* Needs to be able to print images at a good quality
* Would be a huge bonus if it had some Linux functionality :)
* Aesthetics!!

Budget would be £200 max, lower the better. One thing I'm willing to let go is multifunction and replace it with a scanner.

if you have a wireless router int he house that has netwrok connections you could use that to conect it or connect to to a base pc and always have that turned on

i say the Brother 340 (AOI + auto feeder and network and wireless) the 640 (same but with Fax and handset) these are more aimed towards the office end of home/office with only 3 colors + black about 8quid on *** colors with 15quid on the black or £23.50 for 2 , with the 340 being around 100quid and the 640 around 150 very small phiscal footprint but very realable , there are more moden models like the 440 which have a color LCD but is around the 140 mark the 240 is about £110 but no auto feeder or color LCD or the 440 which has a auto feed and color LCD but is nearer £140 but the 440 and the 240 don't have wirless at all

theres also the HP Photosmart C6180 which is in a sort of ipod white style (which i hate on stuff) the c6180 is more geared towards the home end of things has wireless and normal cable network as well as normal USB , has 5 colors which are still sperate at about 6.99 each with a black being 10+ for 6ml or 20+ for a 18ml black but u can get pack with a small black and the colors + photo paper for 28 (seen it as low as that in retail but as high as 36 in purple shirt world). Also these inks have there own printheads and airfilters in them (should help cut down on ink evaporating if the unit is left unused for a while) still hase a auto paper feeder for copys and fax as well as cards slots and a Full color LCD for photo's the machine it self it £200 to £250.

as for drivers HP has your normal xp vista and mac drivers no no lunix from what i can see

as for the borther models i think there trying to set up some lunix program for drivers http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/index.html but nothing offical it seems as of yets ,

yes i know a lot about this stuff as i have to sell some of thease units in Office retail chain , got to pay for uni some how :) hope i was of some help

sorry to hi jack a bit but I saw you recommended the borther 340 printer, can you tell me if the drivers work on vista 64bit for this printer so I can get full functionality from it
