Hi there,

As title really. The printer I currently have is a really old HP laserjet 4P and the toner is running out and I CBA to buy a new one.

Basicly have around £60 to spend on the printer. Don't need laser any more and would like it to print photos as well as CV's and letters.

All-In-One would be nice as well as the kids can scan etc. Pict-bridge would again be good as can then print straight from digi-cam.

Was looking at Cannon & HP but can't find one decent enough within price range. Don't know about Lexmark. Separate ink cartridges seem like a good idea and 'compatible' ink cartridges would be nice due to the cheapness. Not to bothered if they break the printer as long as it lasts a few years.

Any ideas anyone?

Had my eye on the Epson DX8450 as it seems to have everything & be a nice price but a bit weary on Epson as my last one (years & years ago) had print head problems, is this sorted now?

Cheers very much in advance, Doug.

Well epson seemed to have sorted the problem but i still swear by Canon.

Got 3 canon printers and only ever had one problem which was my own fault for taking it apart and trying to work out where the 3 thousand degree thermal reaction takes place!

But on a serious note i would go for this one,

As i said never had a problem with them and this one meets your requirements, top notch photos to quick draft letters it does it all ;)

Cheers for replying shr3k.

I also swear by Cannon and have seen that printer you suggested.

Only thing I like more about the Epson is the screen, quicker printing times and the seperate ink cartridges.

We live by the sea and will be printing quite a few seaside shots which (in my head) means the blue may run out quicker than the other colours. If this is the case then (again in my head) it makes sense to have seperate ink. Problem is the Cannon doesn't have this and replacing all the colours when only one is gone seems like a waste to me... If someone can correct me and tell me this won't happen then that's one major thing cleared up.

The other problem is, although there is a 'compatible' ink cartridge, it only offers a bigger capacity. Will this offer a cheaper printing rate?

Sorry for all the questions and I know it's not a lot of money but would prefer to buy only once and have it last for a while;)

Cheers, Doug.

Ok,

Firstly quicker isn't always better. Epson photo's are just as good as canon's and don;t get me wrong having the seperate ink cartridges will help you with the blue shots so that may be a better option for you.

However you can get kits to refil the cartridges for people just like you. You can buy just blue or all three when you need it. Refilling is wuite easy aswell!

For the bigger compatible cartridges there will still be the same ink rate, but obviusly proce wise will end up being the same.
