Looking for a non-Razer mouse

I've been exclusively using Razer mice for well over a decade now, starting with the old rollerball Boomslang. Ever since the Boomslang theyve got a bit carried away with style over substance, and in the last few years it's really gone too far, with a ridiculous slew of mice that beam out lights in every direction, without really making any progress ergonomically or technically.

So I'm still using a DeathAdder from about 5 years ago, and it's still the best mouse I can find. The trouble is the clickers are getting really worn down, with the right click button becoming pretty unreliable, requiring me to regularly take it apart and sand down the clicker itself. It's now worn down to nearly nothing, so I really should just get a new mouse, but is there a worthwhile option besides just buying a brand new deathadder?

Basically I'm looking for something with a low profile (claw grip), not ultra expensive, wired and ideally of a minimalist appearance. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Isn't the Roccat Kone similar shape to a DA? Its a good mouse either way, would definatly recommend.

get the new respawn death adder... its amazing.

a year or so later, the buttons still feel like new and its never skipped a inch once .

I'd say the Logitech G500 is a good bet, but it's not exactly 'low profile' next to the xai etc... It's similar size/shape to my G5 though and i use a claw grip on it and it feels fine in hand :)

new deathadder

being worn out after 5 years usage is no bad thing.

i went from a deathadder to a mamba and it is the same shell basically

the wireless is superb and there is no difference between response from the two units.

if you have a bit to spend, get the mamba

i dont really have any non razer suggestions as i prefer them myself.

I'm going to agree with the others and recommend the roccat kone its not cheap but it's worth the money I got mine a couple days ago and its amazing :)

Love the R.A.T. series personally, but that is very much a Marmite thing....

If anything I'm not sure it meets your specs of not showy... but I've actually found all the 'show' is honest functionality, I love the customisation of it.

Seen the new DeathAdder Black Edition? Same as the Respawn minus the bling. Getting five years out of a mouse is bloody good going mate and wouldn't knock it. I went through a pile of different mice until I discovered the DeathAdder and now I couldn't use anything else.

If only Razer spent a bit more time on the feel of the scroll wheel it would be 5* but the wheel feels bad quality to me, ok it works fine but the tactile response to the clicks is awful.

Agreed. The scroll wheels are terrible. They work for a few weeks then start to grind, stick and squeak. Ie use PTFE lube on the mechanism which does sort the problem but it is a design flaw that I wish Razer would do something about.

Thanks for the input all. I ended up sticking with Razer, and going for the new Black Edition Death Adder. Feels great, exactly the same as the Death Adder I had before, but with a nicer finish, better insides and much more minimal (ie non-glowing) look. Scroll wheel also seems good, although I've not had much of a problem with them in the past (nothing that opening it up and cleaning out the gunk doesn't solve).

Had my lachesis a few years now I'm sure and nothing wrong with my scroll wheel

Depends on the model I guess. Had this problem with two DeathAdders and an Abyssus. I hear even the Mamba can suffer from this issue. Hard to explain without pics of the mouse opened up but an easy fix. On the DA it caused by friction from a little pin that holds the scroll mechanism in place and on the Abyssus it's a roller that contacts the underside of the right mouse button. It's basically just friction and noise generated where plastic rubs against plastic. Other manufacturers have obviously had solutions for decades and puzzled as to why after several iterations, the DA still does this. My only gripe with Razer mice and still wouldn't trade in my DeathAdder as it beats everything else I've ever used for accuracy and comfort.

I used to really enjoy using my MX1000 due tot eh size and weight it died and I moved over to a MX Revolution, weas never happy with the size/weight.

Moved to a roccat Kone v1, wasnt to happy with the weight even with the supplied weights inserted, got used to it tho and now I wouldn't look back :)

Roccat Kone +1
