Topic says it all really, no maximum price - looking for:

- Quiet
- Very fast
- PCI-express
- Nvidia if possible

Silence is the most important factor to me! Don't want a noisy card. But is should be as fast as possible :)

7900GTO, but go for ati much better than nvidia atm. Maybe the 8800 wil change things. Stick with what you got atm and see what the prices are like after G80 is released :)

7900's aint new gen, nor is any ATi card, so thats them all out, in fact thats every card out now, has to be G80 its the only one, its new gen you should know that, buying DX9 cards now is pointless. ;)

If no maximum price, then go for a G80, either the GTX or GTS.

However nobody knows how loud either of these cards will be.

Ignore Stupidamountsofmoney, he spams every damn thread with his "remortgage your wife and kids for a G80". :D

As said already, the best one to go for if you prefer Nvidia is the 7900GTO. It's just a rebadged 7900GTX, which is the fastest and quietest Nvidia card out, sold much cheaper than normal retail prices.

The 8800GTX and 8800GTS are coming on November 8th, but they will be in limited quantity and they will be very expensive. Might be be worth waiting and checking them out.

Thanks all. I'm not keen on buying vastly expensive new tech that isn't grounded in, so I'll certainly be looking to get one of the 7900GTO's.

I'm not an nvidia fanboy just in case you think - it's just I have never been let down my an nvidia card (yet!).

[edit]

Looking at the Gainward BLISS GeForce 7900 GS SILENT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-041-GW) £170.36 inc VAT

A good choice? I currently own pretty much the identical AGP version and it is very quiet.

No i dont, its got nothing to do with money, how loud they are, nothing, you shouldn't buy DX9 cards anymore as they are utterly pointless, they are old gen, new gen is only 5 days away, do not tell ppl to buy old gen DX9 cards anymore, you know what the new gen brigade is like, its new gen G80 no exceptions, im sorry, but you just have agree with them, you will not win, best to just accept it, its all you can do, your only going to set them off. :(

I'm not too bothered whether it's DX10 or not - DX9 would satisfy me totally, so long as its fast. I can wait for DX10 when vista is out and there are plenty of games using it.

I know what your saying, but its pointless, once the new gen brigade spot this thread you'll know why, we've all tried saying this believe me. :(

post that in this thread here its where the new gen brigade hang out, but be warned. :(

LoadsaMoney some of us don't have your kind of money - that's why some of us are still considering dx9. I mean I would love to get a dx10 card believe me, but right now at £500? No thank you. I'm not saying the card is bad because I am sure it would please me but I just can't put that amount cash out on a graphics card so near christmas.

But if anyone wants to buy me one I would be willing to accept :D

I know what your saying, but its not about money, DX10, or anything like that, no one should be buying DX9 cards anymore as they are old gen now, new gen is here in 5 days, all the info is in the thread i linked to in my above post, as you will see loads of us have tried saying all this, but new gen brigade will not have it, so we have gave in, its got to be new gen G80 no exceptions, im sorry. :(

If you tell them your buying DX9 cards you will never hear the end of it from them about how pointless it is buying a DX9 card with new gen here in 5 days as DX9 cards are now old gen etc... etc... , give in graciously like the rest of us, believe me i would love to say DX9 cards, but its just not worth it as the new gen brigade kick off.

Ok, I'll wait. If I can get one after christmas that would be better I guess in time for Vista.

As i said in the other thread im not getting one, my x1800 Xt cuts through everything maxed out fine still :D , and DX10 is over a year away yet, oops set the new gen brigade off again, im outa here i can hear a very angry mob heading this way now.

Doesn't the current Vista DL RC2 have DX10 in it?

Eitherway DX10 is pointless addition.

All they are buying into is a expensive graphics card to boost DX9, which to be perfectly honest a X1900XTX does up to 1600x1200 and SLI up to 30inch monitors.

The DX10 brigade can shout all they want, its still BS.

Bugs, slowness, not enough power.. we haven't got ONE idea how it performs in DX10. So its no reason to buy a expensive gfx card to pander to nvidias wants.

I wish this were true, 7900GTX in SLI is not enough for 2560x1600 and with Quad SLI being somewhat iffy, this is why I'm upgrading to 2 SLI 8800GTX's. The 8800 is going to be a very quick DX9 card, ignore the fact that its DX10 compliant, its really not relevant. At the very least I'd wait till the 8th to make your decision, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
