In here and out there.
Hi peeps, with the impending VM speed boosts I'm on the look out for a router that has:
*High WAN to LAN throughput capable of handling 120mbit.
*Gigabit LAN
*Able to connect to a VPN service (ie I want the router to connect to a VPN service rather than have the router as a VPN server to connect to.)
*Able to handle a silly amount of torrent connections (4000+ items waiting to be seeding)

Wireless isn't really a consideration, they only connect occasionally.

I have had my eye on the Draytek 2130 class router for a while now, will this do?, is there anything better than it?

Cheers all.

What you're really looking for is a small business firewall for that.

No idea what your budget is, but I recently started trialling Fortinet's entry level Fortigate series, Fortigate40C comes in about £350. There are probably cheaper ones out there but that's probably the kind of box that'd do that job best. Consumer routers might state they do 100mbit+ throughput but their IPSec throughput will be pathetic.

Cheers Duke, it appears the Draytek is the pick of the consumer grade equipment.

As for The Fortigate/FortiWiFi, it looks a formidable beast to say the least, I'm having difficulty finding somewhere in the UK that sells it, and those that do expect me to be a corporate customer and want to bundle in a support package with it.
Would I have to pay for the features like the Anti Virus/Malware?

Yes they're additional because they're an ongoing service. But it's unlikely that for SOHO use you'll need that, just the vanilla box should be more than adequate. Seings as we're on OcUK I can't tell you where I went for one because despite not selling the device negating any competition between them on that market share, it'll still get magicked into a sarcastic yellow comment.
But seeings as we are on OcUK their purchasing team should be able to source one for you if you give them a call. Can't guarantee the price won't be silly though.

Righty-ho, Thanks for your input dude, I shall consider it a great deal.
On one side it is pretty much what I am after and a little bit more, yet it is also kind of like bringing an atom bomb to a firework display. ;)

Cheers Skidilliplop. :)
