Hi folks,

Can anyone recommend a good PCI-Express SATAII RAID5 card with at least 4 SATA ports? Or does anyone know of a good review of such cards (Tomshardware used to have a good review but it seems to have been taken offline!)

Warmest regards,
Jack

I know of the review you mention as well and indeed it appears to be offline but Toms Hardware has other similar reviews.

I think this review makes the missing one obsolete anyway.

Some other applicable Toms Hardware reviews (listed new > old):

I'm running an 8 port Highpoint RocketRAID 2320 4x PCIe card at the moment. It's basically the PCIe equivalent of the 1820 card in the second bottom review above.

For what I need it's a great wee card, not too expensive (£160 or so from our hosts) and with a good feature set. It has hardware support for XOR parity calculation which improves write speed but there's no cache or any of the other fancy bits that Areca or the like provide (but not the £400 price tag either). I use my array primarily for storage so I can cope with the 45Mb/s or so write speed and the 150Mb/s read speed makes up for it.

The software is quite good too, it supports online capacity expansion etc which can be useful plus the ability to link 2 cards to provide a single 16 disk array

There's also a 4 port version going for £90 or so which is a bit of a bargain.
