Hello all, I’m looking to build a desktop setup with a budget of 1.3k including windows 11 home edition.

I’ve put some ideas together in my basket which I’ll link below- although I’m relatively new to this and want to ensure the compatibility and value etc. Please take a look and let me know what you think and / or if any adjustments need to be made.

Cheers, Tom.

RX 6600 for £330: this is old pricing now, I'd go for the RX 6700 for the same money.
The Phanteks AMP 650 is a superior (Seasonic-built) model to the GC-650, has a longer warranty and is £5 less expensive.
OCUK don't seem to have the AMD discounts yet, but you should pay either £150 for a 5600 non-x or £240 for a 5700X. £220 is a poor price for a 5600X.

The ram you have chosen is on the mobo QVL list but I really would not bother with 4400mhz ram. Would look for 3600mhz ddr4 and the Ryzen tuned ram is normally just as cheap as all the rest.

Prices do seem a bit inflated. You could get an RX 6600 for £260 a couple of weeks ago so make sure you shop around for a decent price and like Tetras says you can get 6700 for £330 so go for that instead.

Here is what I would get if I was in your position.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,234.07 (includes delivery: £13.20)

Mobo is not in stock and there is limited choice for B550 and X570 mobos so you may be limited to what you can actually get a hold of. If supply is a real issue then you swap to a 12400f+B660 build for the same money and is comparable performance if not slightly better.

If you wait a couple of weeks you will be able to see what sort of performance AM5 with 7000 series Ryzen chips brings to the table. Also SSDs could come down in price as well , oversupply of NAND so expect price drops for that component.

Thank you for the hard work with the basket, I appreciate it as I am fairly new to building sets like this. Is there a reason to go for a more expensive motherboard with less processing power? I’ll keep an eye out for supply and swap if required- as I plan to purchase in the next few days.

this is well overpriced tbh
can get 5600x/3060ti prebuilds for £900 (shopping around)

for £1200 should be looking at least at a 3070 or 6800 imo
Yeah I’m new to this so not sure what’s optimal for the money, all advice is welcome and thank you for the post. If at all possible if you could include a basket link for a 1.3 k budget I’d appreciate it. I’m not overly worried about crazy performance but I do game and would like solid smooth speed and graphics.

this is what i'd get for your £1.3k budget:

5700x - 8 core processor
b550 board is sufficient for most users who don't require lots of i/o devices
32gb 3200mhz ram - best price/performance
tier b psu - https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ - solid psu (source: me - i've used this power supply in a couple of my friends' builds)
radeon 6800 (~30% faster than the 6700)
sn570 is a decent mid-range pcie3 ssd, could opt for the sn750se if you want a pcie4 ssd
i've not specced windows as grey keys can be bought for a lot cheaper
solid cooler for the price (source: me - i've personally used this cooler so first-hand experience)

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,271.92 (includes delivery: £0.00)

I tend to think a board should cost half as much as the CPU you're buying unless you need the extra features.

Thank you for taking the time to do that- looks great

The 5600 is pretty much identical performance to a 5600x so just get the cheaper 5600 imho, you will never tell the difference. Like I mentioned B550 and X570 mobos are getting short on stock, no real need for X570 so a decent B550 will do the job just as well so I should have put one of those in.

I have not seen any prebuilts with 5600+3060ti for £900 but I have not looked so no surprise I have not found them. Lots of places selling of AM4 stock and current gen of gpus so there are certainly deals to be had. If you do find a well priced prebuild then things to look out for are 1- decent PSU , prebuilds often come with less than premium psus 2 - standard ATX mobo( or micro atx) so if anything goes wrong it is relatively easy to get a new one 3 - Case , make sure it has at least some airflow. 4-Cpu cooler , not that much of a problem with the relatively low TDP chips you are looking at but some SIs use inadequate cooling at times. 5-RAM , needs to be dual channel and at least 3200mhz.
