Hey all.
My brother wants a tool kit as he currently has none for basic car maintenance.
I have heard Halfords ones used to be good but have gone down hill recently.
Looking to spend around £100, may be a bit less.

There is often chat on here about tools so thought this would be good place to ask :).

The halfords kits havent gone downhill???
They are immense value. If anything breaks (havent in mine yet) you get a new one.
I even swapped one of the ones from my kits for one on the shelf as the sample had more clearance on a water sensor

If you know someone local to you with a trade card the then you can get the 150 piece set for ~£97 which is immense value as it has pretty much everything you will need bar a torque wrench.

Make sure they are Halfords Advanced/Professional and not the cheaper guff they sell!

The Halfords Advanced/Professional stuff is great IMO, my set has been invaluable for over 6 years now.

My Halfords Professional kit is still going strong after @10 years. Building a kit car, working in a professional workshop (on loan to a mate), 3-4 of my own cars general maintenance. Can't speak more highly of them.

Halfords Pro, highlhy recommended. One of the best things I've boiught in the last few years.

I have a lot of draper tools and they are fairly good, fairly cheap to buy too so i dont worry too much about breaking anything.

The halfords professional kit that is uaually reduced to £99 ish is a good base, But I would complement it with a) some ratcheting pivot spanners from halfords and b) some cheap 6 sided 1/2' impact sockets from Aldi.

This, and a few bigger spanners wouldn't go amiss.

another vote for halfords, I got the 150 piece kit last x mas for 89.99 with 10% off i think, could not grumble at all and only replaced my last halfrords kit as i lost some of the bits.

great value and product

Another very happy Hell-frauds pro user here - lifetime guarantee I believe, apart from the racheting mech, which I've broken once.
Wait until after xmas if you want the 170 piece one, more chance of it being on sale then.
Have tried lots of brands, but unless you want to spend mega bucks on something like Snap-on, the Halfords pro kit is perfectly serviceable.
