I just reached the Epilogue in The Witcher EE and I'm totally dreading it being over. It doesn't have to be a particular genre, really. Just something with a story and characters you can get involved in. A bit of action and violence wouldn't go wrong, though.;)

I'll try and save all you kind hearted souls some effort and list some of the games I've played that might fall into this area. I'm bound to forget some.

Bioshock
Deus Ex 1+2
Kotor 1+2
Fallout series
Mass Effect
Mafia
Oblivion
System Shock 2

I realise it's a bit vague. Like Mafia and Mass Effect are chalk and cheese, but there's plenty action and totally brilliant storyline. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fable, I forgot to mention. I got them both on the xbox(s)

I've not tried Neverwinter 2, though. I think I had a crack at the first one last year and it didn't grab me.

Tried Stalker? Either the original or the expansion would probably be down your street judging by the games you've listed.

Just make sure you patch it fully (official patches) and save regularly incase you do hit any bugs. Oh, and stick with it for the first 4 or 5 hours when you're struggling with crap equipment.

i realise i'm probably not selling it very well, but it is an amazing fps/survival horror/rpg once you get into it. It just takes a little while to get going, and was notoriously buggy on release.

Sorry, I can't believe I forgot some of these.
Tried Stalker?

Played it. Loved it. I heard that prequel thing wasn't as good, something to do with the voice acting being awfully chipper?

GIANTS: CITIZEN KABUTO For the sheer comedy involved!

This was in my top 5 list. If I hadn't already played this, I would have been forever in your debt. One of the most overlooked games I can think of.

Can't say i noticed. It's certainly not quite as scary as the original and the ending is pretty poor, but it's still very very good and definitely worth playing if you like SOC.

I thought they made some excellent improvements for Clear Sky as well. The anomolies/artifacts were much better designed - it actually became an achievement to collect artifacts now. The introduction of the ability to repair and upgrade weapons and armour makes a big difference. The faction wars are a little buggy, but still add some interest to the gameplay. Plus it's interesting to play the old maps but in the past, so with some cool differences to the lay of the land. Oh, and 3 or 4 completely new levels thrown in as well.

Give NWN 1 a bash again, once your out of the city in act 1 the game picks up a lot add the expansions in and its really good game with hours of fun.

I disliked NWN 2 maybe thats because it was buggy for me and i restarted 4-5 times and got fed up going over the same areas.

I'm the same as you, can't get into a game without a story. Is Mass Effect well worth playing from this point of view? Always had a look at it and never got round to it.

Oh, and play Beyond Good and Evil. Right up your alley, and probably the most upsettingly overlooked games of the past few years.

Apart from all the ones mentioned, I really enjoyed The Witcher, though you might not like the combat system.

Can anyone get Giants: CK working on xp/current hardware? Last time I tried it i had a gf2 ultra and windows 98.

You might like to give Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction a bash, storyline is a bit patchy in places but it could fit the bill.
