Hi all, I'm hoping some very kind and informed people in here can help me spec up a new build for myself. To give some background i have been an IT engineer for around 20 years now but i have been away from building PC's, keeping up with components etc for quite a bit now.

My last PC i built was a AMD64 based machine, built to a budget but with a lovely case(Silverstone TG05), a 7800GTX, couple of SATA 500Gb drives, Dell 2405FPW etc. The new machine unfortunately has to be to a budget again, i'm hoping the case will still be useable with new boards but i've ignored listing the other older components as they are too far out of date.

The budget would have to be between £500 - £600 maximum at the moment. My useage of a PC these days is mostly internet, media files and gaming is mostly restricted to Lord of the Rings online and World of Warcraft. Other gaming is always done on my Xbox360 and will continue to be so. Therefore i'm looking for a machine which will allow me to run MMORPG's at full detail and to be able to run other games perhaps at high resolution but lower detail levels(The Dell 2405 has a standard res of 1920x1080 and scaling isn't brilliant). I'd be looking to still play HD movie files etc and to stream them to the Xbox but even my existing machine does that.

Sorry for the tome but i thought it best to try and explain the needs a bit to help with the spec, this is all basically as i no longer know what memory to go with what socket, is an i3 useless for me compare to an i5 etc etc.

Many thanks for the help

P.S. I would prefer to stick with Intel if possible(Old habits die hard)

I'd offer to spec a list, but my shopping basket on OC's is full to bursting; if no one else helps before I complete my order, I'll gladly help you get a list together. :)

Id lose old habits & get this,,

Cant find pics of case, hope it fits.

Many thanks for the quick reply's, I'm sitting at the moment reading up on the newer AMD quad cores etc and the intel i3 and i5's, a lot of people seem to rave about the Intel units over the AMD's. I'm wondering though for the useage my machine would get(MMO's, some games, Video, Music and Internet) would i ever really notice the difference between a newer AMD and Intel? Is there a preference for example to have perhaps a lower clock speed but more cores if you are on a budget such as myself? Also the FSB speed used to be quite important to the general speed of a machine, i'm wondering if perhaps with the speeds so high now that again for me this is perhaps not so important.

I may well come across the answers as im reading but it's nice to get it backed up especially with my lack of recent knowledge.

I do like the look of that spec posted though, i was guessing i'd end up dual cored but quad would be superb!

Cheers all
