As my name suggests I’m a newbie when it comes to PC’s so I’m looking for advice and guidance on what system specs would be better. They’re both the same price and I’m not looking to run in 4K 100fps but do want some good steady frames on 1440p however not 100% confirmed on that or 1080p. Any and all advice is very much appreciated.

System 1
  • Intel® Core™ i7-8700K (3.7 GHz base frequency, up to 4.7 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 12 MB cache, 6 cores)
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti (11 GB GDDR5X dedicated)
  • 16 GB memory; 2 TB HDD storage; 256 GB SSD storage
System 2
  • Intel® Core™ i7-8700 (3.2 GHz base frequency, up to 4.6 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 12 MB cache, 6 cores)
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2080 (8 GB GDDR6 dedicated)
  • HyperX® 16 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM with 256GB PCIe® SSD and 2TB storage

They're actually much of a muchness, which is why they're the same price. Both will give you excellent performance at 1440p. The RTX 2080 is the newer graphics card, so I would plump for that. The question is, are you going to overclock? Because the 8700K can be overclocked and the 8700 cannot (though it will boost itself to 4.6 GHz). Do note that you will require a good CPU cooler and a good PSU and a good case to overclock.

I had the choice a year ago and plumped for the 8700. But I don't overclock.

Thank you for the advice Quartz, I’m probably not gonna overclock, so I’ll probably go for the RTX system.

Ps, hope you had a good burns night my fellow Scot
