Looking for low profile (32mm or less ideally) DDR4 ram with balance of speed and latency

Dear all,

I'm planning an 8700k build (yes I know that it might be a while before they are available in large numbers) as an upgrade from my current 3700k/z68 based system.

Of course, this entails new MB + new ram, but one thing I am determined to keep is my Noctua NH-15. To keep this in dual fan mode there is 32mm clearance over the ram. I've looked on OCUK and very few, if any, of the ram listings give the physical dimenstions of the sticks, so can someone recommend some ram that would be good with a 8700k/370 platform (3200 or more with decent timings) and is less than 32mm high?

You can, of course, mount the fan on the Noctua a little higher, so if 32mm isn't possible, is there anything that is in the 37mm high range?

Thank you for your help, but this is my first time looking at a new system for many years, so I am little rusty in terms of my knowledge of current ram and apologise for asking such a basic question :)

I guess I had the same problem that you had. I went with this option:

You can remove the top part of that ram to save a bit of space but it will still be a bit too tall. So i just removed the heat spreader all together. If you go that route, know that the side with the chips on them comes off very easily, the side without chips does not come off as easily so maybe not worth the trouble.

Thanks very much for that, i'm considering either running the nh-15 in single fan mode or picking up a nh-d15s instead to avoid memory fouling issues, but interestingly there aren't notes of any issues with asus z370 boards on the Noctua site, so i might take a gamble too.

Decisions, decisions....

I.m sure by now you have already decided. I wouldn't trade-off cooling efficiency because of ram height personally :p. Plus I was still able to install the second fan before I removed the ram heat-spreader, it was just offset and I didn't like how uneven it looked next to the other fan (OCD much). If case permits it you will be able to offset the fan above the heat-spreader and still close your case without doing any modifications.
