o again,

Im looking to spend around 650 max on the 4 componenets.

Im abit confused with all the intel boards. i965 i975 etc and with nforce 680 etc. Can anyone shed any light on it?

Also some suggestions for components that will be good for overclocking, i have water cooling which will be used with it and also want to rig a tv upto the gfx card.

Someone has suggest i get the new Gigabyte GA P35C as its a good stable mobo with next gen memory capabilitiyes.

Thanks

Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA663)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Total: £775.39 inc shipping

The 975X chipsets are quite old now and tend to have issues with memory. The 965P chipset and the nForce 680i chipsets are the next stage up and perform very similarly, good overclockers. The P35 chipsets are the newest ones and overclock verywell. There is a new version of the P35 coming out soon ( the high end version ) called X86 i beleive. May be worth waiting for, not certain on a date.

The E6600 will go to 3.6GHz easily enough on Water, and probobly 4GHz after that.

That RAM although its 667MHz at stock is a complete monster overclocking and will easily go to 1000/1050MHz+ at tighter timings than the PC8500 stuff.

Motherboard is packed full of features and has some nice cooling for the chipset on board too. :)

Same as this but I would knock the E6600 down to the E6300, and take the 8800 to a X1950. Should knock off about £100, a bit more in you price range and O mabye go with the gigabyte DS4 instead of the abit, great board.

Bit under budget but uses the motherboard you suggest (note it is out of stock though) and do remember that there is no such thing as future proof, if DDR3 is anything like DDR2 it isn't exactly a major advance over DDR in speed terms.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

My current system is 2.2 opteron 148 oc'd to 2.8, x1900xt 512, 2gb gskill ram and dfi lan party 4 sli mobo. How much would i be looking to get if i were to sell that ?

Also, would there be any point spending that lil bit more money and getting the pc2-6400 memory? or even stretching out to the GTX gfx card?

Thanks again for the replies

It depends on the PC6400 that you were thinking of going for, the PC5300 Ballistix as specified apparantly uses the same chips as the PC8500 so often can overclock to 1000mhz+ (no guarantees of course) while something like the Geil PC6400 C4 tends to reach somewhere in the region of 900-950mhz now it seems.

If the GTX is worth it depends on the resolution of your monitor, below 1600x1200 or thereabouts I'd probably just stick with an 8800GTS 640mb, above that the GTX starts to come into its own.

As for the pricing, I'm not sure so I'll leave it plus there is a specific Price Check sub-forum of the Members Market although you don't have enough posts for access yet. :)
