Heading to Dubai in 2 weeks, looking for recommendations for places to go, eat at, etc.

Is the Burj Khalifa SKY ticket worth it? The premium seems like a lot for the 20 odd extra floors.

BK is worth it at sunset but it really depends on how clear the sky is, it can be so sandy/hazy you can’t really see that much. Worth a trip to the top just for the experience if not the views. Atlantis waterpark is great, especially if you get a cabana - you also get “a chap” who will run and get you anything at your whim and the lazy river is fun even if the big slides aren’t your thing. The malls are “interesting” but just malls. Gold souk is something to see that’s a bit more authentic. Brush up on your conversational russian :D

I have a 3 full day stop next year so following. Only thing so far is thinking of going to Wild Wadi as will be with kids.

Dubai Mall to watch the fountain show at least once. (For shopping I prefer Mall of Emirates as it's easier to get around)
Global Village is a must. Can add Miracle Garden on same day.
Desert safari with dune bashing, camel riding, dinner dance show etc is fun.
Walk around the gold soul area in Deira, take a super cheap boat across the Creek walk along Al Seef.
Dubai Marina in evening to take photos with the surrounding high rise lit buildings, can also take a super cheap boat from one end to the other.

There are loads of other stuff you can do but depends on your interests, such as museums (not my thing), The Palm, water parks etc.
For eating depends on your budget. I avoid the 'tourist' places to eat and prefer finding local places, but if you are planning to go all out then getting The Entertainer for the discount might be an option.

TripAdvisor has a very good Dubai forum.

Glad I ticked off UAE via work, it's a place that doesn't remotely interest me for personal travel.

Burj Khalifa is alright, for some reason I did pay for the 'premium' option, as there were no normal tickets left (did it on a whim). It is impressive yes, but wouldn't bother again.

My biggest gripe about those cities is that everything is so far from everything else, and it's not a city where you can just explore by foot and discover things along the way.
The old market bit is quite nice too if you've not experienced any middle eastern culture I guess.

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi is very impressive if you ever make your way across that way.

I am hoping to day trip to Abu Dhabi

Brunch at Tasca by Jose Avillez was superb
Buddha Bar - great sushi. You're not short of options for sushi in Dubai but this was nice, not overpriced like some
Mezcalleria also does nice Mexican, look out for Taco Tuesdays for drink/food specials

Thanks for all the recs. Did a flying visit and got back this morning. Didn't end up going up the Burj Khalifa in the end because left it a bit late to get tickets and everything was sold out.

Oh, if anybody ends up finding this thread later for Dubai - they give out tourist SIMs with 1gb data at the airport (but it expires in 24 hours after activation, and I wasn't able to top up with my credit card)
