Hi,

Just built my i7 920 machine :D

Gigabyte UD5
6GB Corsair ram
5770
Noctua Cooler
800W PS
Fractal Design Case

Just wondering if there are any testing regimes that people run to make sure everything is working?

I've downloaded speed fan - it mentions some other temperatures apart from the cores, some of which get hotter than the core temps, how do i find out which components are being represented? I'm guessing they are mb temps?
Are there better temp monitors? Can i leave them running all the time?

Lastly, what sort of temps would you expect from that system? Don't want to get anything too hot :)

Sorry for all the q's :)

Thanks guys.

For testing, running Prime95 (google it) on Blend will strain your cpu and memory pretty heavily. Those two are the main things you should test. I tend to leave it running overnight for a new pc, if it's still running when you wake up; you have a solid build. To test your graphics simply install something like Crysis or 3dmark.

As for temps I couldn't say, not knowing much about the i7.

Which power supply is it?

Speed fan is fairly rubbish. I'm using cpu-id hwmonitor which I don't have great faith in, but it's probably reliable enough.

I'd run intel burn test through it, should pass with flying colours at stock. If the cpu goes over 80 that's a bad sign,

With the system siting totally at stock with default bios settings your cpu will be on a 12 x multiplier, resulting in a clockspeed of 1600 mhz ono, baseclock of 133mhz, once you put the system under load the multiplier will rise to 20x, 20 x 133 =2660mhz (2.66ghz) the reason for the multiplier dropping is due to intel speedstep which is a power saving feature, your ram will probably be siting at 533mhz ddr (1066mhz) timings will depend on the brand of ram and what your board sets them at.
