looking for some speakers for new build do i need sound card?

I am looking for some speakers for my new build i was wondering do i need to buy a sound card for the speakers to work. I am also looking for advice on which sound card and which speakers with a budget of about £50 on both or just speakers. Thank you appreciate any feedback.

You don't need a soundcard as your Motherboard will have onboard audio. What are you going to be using the speakers for but? Music, Games or Movies?

I am going to be using the speakers for games and blu ray and normal dvds spend around £50 any suggestions many thanks.

Likely you will be wanting 2.1 then, unless you have no space for a sub. I'd just get a reasonably good set of 2.1 speakers, and forget the sound card. Just use the on-board audio.

A sound card well, um, provides sound.... Do you mean what does a sound card do that on-board audio doesn't?

The Creative S2 speakers are a good set of 2.1 speakers for under £50 if you know where to look.

I looked at picking a setup for £25 last week.
