Hi,
This is my first post so Hello everybody!
I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on where to go with upgrading my machine.
I'm currently running the following:
K9N platinum SLI
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2ghz
2x1gb PC2-4300 266mhz DDR2
Nvidia 7600 GS
I'm not an extremly heavy gamer but I am looking to give the machine a bit of a boost. At the moment I am thinking of just upgrading the video and RAM. I have around £100 for video card and another ~£80 for the RAM so I am on a bit of a budget.
The Nvidia 9600 GT is looking as the best bet in my price range, but I'm not sure if the motherboard will support it (can someone confirm this?). If not then then the Nvidia 8800 GT(s) is looking like the next best alternative. I will then max out the RAM on the system, IIRC this mobo will take 8gb so this will come in at around £80 I will then go for the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200 for the processor a couple of months after.
In all this will cost in the ball park of £230, and I would like your opinions on how this machine would hold up? Is it worth going down this route or a dead end? Does anyone have a machine around this spec who could give me their opinion on it?
Also just off the top of my head, if I went with this spec would it be worth running dual 8800's in SLI?
Thank for reading this and apologies of the wall of text!
Chad
