At the moment i have a q9550 and have been seriously considering upgrading to i7 for a while now. The question is, is it worth it? I only really use my pc for gaming so im not sure if i'll see any real benefits of going i7. However i'm considering a multi gpu setup and have heard i7s perform better in this area. Would just like to get some opinions as i dont want to go wasting my money. I'm in a position to be able to a big upgrade at the moment (doesn't happen very often lol), but if it's not worth it, i think i'll leave it.

Spec:

q9550, p5q3 mobo, 4870 1GB

Stick with what you have atm, if you want to do an upgrade, just hold off for a while until the DX11 HD5800 series cards get released, and then grab one of those.

If you only use your PC for gaming like you have stated, you won't notice much if any performance increase moving over to i7.

I have the i7 I am looking even further forward to the i9 6 cores 12 threads oooooo my bank is swearing already.

If you have not gone i7 the i5 is looking like a decent alternative price wise but tbh for just gaming you are good as you are.
