What is recommended at the moment? to be used for gaming anything from indie pixel platformers to the latest FPS releases.

i would prefer non curved moitors but can adapt.

also possibly looking for 2560x1440 regular monitors that can all fit nicely together with the ultrawide

i have 2 monoprice IPS 1440p at the moment and a hanns -g 1080p but would think these might look bad next to the new monitor ?

budget wise nothing extreme but open to most if they are worthwhile

thanks

I've just purchased an Acer X34a as an upgrade from the 27" acer XB270HU.

Best thing I've done, picture quality is amazing & the ultra wide resolution just adds an extra depth to games.
Overclocks to 95hz from its default 60h & the curve is very subtle

As the owner of a flat ultrawide, if you want it for games, why would you NOT want a curved one? I wish I'd bit the bullet and paid a bit more. If you sit near enough the screens, the edges appear almost to be facing slightly away from you, a problem you wont get with a curved monitor, which will also add to the immersion effect.

Edit: I guess the above doesn't apply if you plan to use 3 monitors.

Agreed, the curve is so subtle you actually have to look for it to be able to notice it. I spend 99% of my time in general desktop tasks and don't have any problem with it. Mine does 100hz with minimal blb. Its the best monitor I've ever owned.

Robzere - I wonder if you could do me a huge favour. Could you adjust the X34A down to its lowest setting on the stand, and measure how high above the desk the top of the monitor is? I'm on the cusp of buying one but just need to be sure it'll fit under a shelf...

Star! Thank you. I have 49.5cm to play with, and as I'm running on AMD the Samsung is probably a better bet than the Acer. John Lewis have a good price - that's a done deal :)

Yep, the Samsung, no point paying the extra for G-Sync when I'm on AMD (and anyway will be using it more for productivity than gaming.) Really sweet out-of-the-box, haven't bothered tinkering at all yet.

What Samsung are you on about guys?

Been eyeing up the Acer X34a for a while but don't know if there are good alternatives?

likewise, then that alienware comes along and spoils my thoughts. not sure i'm keen on paying £200 g-sync tax, thats like half a new GPU
