Looking into a new ISP for gaming.

Hi there,

I've got UK Online 2 Meg, It's not the cheapest ISP. They do have a fair usuage policy.

They're good for gaming, I get quite low pings to the servers I play on.

For torrent downloades though, you just can't have UK Online. I get the average 1Kb/s - 10 Kb/s if i'm lucky.

I'm thinking about leaving them, just because I can't download at all using torrents.

perfect package for you

office max 45

45gb cap, 832 upload speed, 25+ vat

that does sound a perfect package, only problem is, i know my parents wont pay more than £25, the argument will be "we're only paying £20 atm, so why do we need to pay £25+vat blahblahblah" as you can imagine >_<

Just got for the Home 30 package, I am on it and game a lot, pings never change for me no matter what time of day it is.

hyper could you dos prompt ping "ammobox.net" and "invisiongaming.co.uk" for me? cheers.

Surely the lagging when you speak problem can be sorted by a decent QoS setup, rather than changing ISP? You could change ISP and have exactly the same problem. Ventrilo and CS:S times 2 shouldn't saturate your upstream.

im not familiar with QoS, however i do know that the ventrilo and cs:s times 2 is saturating our upload, because when we join a vent with a lower quality codec it reduces the lag. So i am confident a higher upload speed will cure the problem.

There you go mate but I have a feeling interleaving is enabled on my line hence the higher pings.

ok pretty sure im going to go for UKFSN, but i was wondering how the whole process of switching takes place. E.g When i ring up AOL and ask for a MAC code, then ring up UKFSN and order the ADSL with them. Do AOL immediately disconnect their feed and then it takes a few days for UKFSN to stat theirs? so basically will there be down time and around how much if there is any?

Also we still have 1month of the AOL 12month contract left, will we have to pay the remaining month to switch?

Hyper at the moment i get

Would i be able to get interleaving removed if i got UKFSN, and if so what implications would there be?

Edit: I cannot get BE* in my area cow.

I use Utorrent while being on Skype with mates (hosting) and play UT04 all at the same time without noticing any difference.
£24PM uncapped @ 24MPPS and 1 MB up
I get 10MB down and 1.4MB up (8 miles from exchange)

When you migrate to UKFSN using a MAC, as long as your line isn't currently provided using LLU you'll be migrated free of charge and with no noticeable down time.

If you are on LLU then UKFSN will charge you around £40 or so for the migration as that is what BTW charge them, but there will still be little if any downtime.

AOL on the other hand will be making charges; if you are still inside the 12 month contract they will want that to be paid. Even if you are outside the 12 months you still have to give them one months notice if I recall correctly.

Do check about their policy on refunding part months as well as that could make it cheaper to migrate making sure that you don't go into a new month as you do it.
