Hi there, am new to the forums :D

I've been looking to buy a new PC (primarily for Gaming and streaming) for a while now and am finally looking to bite the bullet and go for it.

I'll detail out what I want/expectations as to give a bit more info

a) I'm wanting to game at 2560 x 1440 (When not streaming) - and 1920 x 1080 (Whilst streaming) - I have a 1080p Samsung monitor/tv atm (its 4 years old... 60hz ucckyness) which is ok but am going to get a monitor that supports 1440p for when I'm playing on me own/ co-oping with the missus.

b) Something that'll support high end/Top end settings in games until at least end 2015/mid 2016 - so a 2.5 year life span at least.

c) I've been considering building a system around the 4770k (for overclocking headroom) Intel processor and a 780ti (which will be the majority of the price)

d) Price limititations - maximum spend 1.5k - w/o monitor

Is this enough money?

Storage - I've already got a 480Gb SSd from OCZ (Which I'll save live streamings/Camtasia to) but looking to get another (smaller one) for just the OS and a HDD for the gaming catalogue.

Can anyone give me build ideas pretty please?

Regards,

FusRoDah

P.S - the sexier looking the better

Here's something to get you started:

1 x Kingston 60GB SSDNow V300 Drive SATA 6Gb/s 3 2.5" (7mm height) Solid State Hard Drive - (SV300S37A/60G) £47.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £47.99
1 x BitFenix Alchemy Cable Bundle - Orange £28.45
Total : £949.37 (includes shipping : £12.50).

There is no GPU in there because non-reference 290X's and 780ti's are just around the corner. If you can wait, do. If not, I'll have to spec something in green instead of orange.

The PSU assumes you won't be adding another GPU. If you think you'll go SLI in the future, get something 850w+.

I really wouldn't bother with 30GB SSD.

you can get 2TB drive for not much more.

I'd probably spend less on MB, but it's a good offer, so why not, if OP likes orange theme.

Microsoft's Windows 8.1 system requirements page would disagree with you on that, but I'm happy to change it for something bigger.

Such detail in including info and pictures - thank you.

Do you mind if I fire some questions off to you? - to diffuse some myths that friends have been chucking at me.

A few are under the impression that 16/32gb Ram is a minimum for future proofing myself for a few years - yet every build I read goes 8Gb (dual channel) w/2.4k ghz ram or 16 (quad channel)@2133/2400.

One or two have mentioned that even a 780ti doesn't perform well in 2560x1440p and to fully reach potential I'd have to SLI - Am I better aiming towards a bigger (and higher refresh rate) 1080p system?

Am liking the Orange &&! - I'll be looking to invest in PC late January so I've got a bit of time just yet.

Last one for now.. I may be a grizzled pro gamer but I've always had to get by with pre built systems - am I going to struggle going full custom - Is a pre-built from OCUK a better path?

Man do I type a lot... sorry!

8GB is enough for gaming, if you want to go overkill go 16GB, 32GB is just crazy.

if you work with VMs or Photoshop, there's never enough RAM. not much future proofing, when DDR4 is round the corner.

Building PCs is easy, but if you want a good clocking Haswell CPU and don't want to play the lottery, you might want to buy the bundle like MB + CPU.

8gb is plenty for gaming at the moment, and will be for the foreseeable future. Adding another 8gb is an easy and relatively cheap upgrade, if it becomes a necessity. 32gb...no need.

Saying that, I'm not sure what kind of stress streaming while gaming puts on your RAM. Something to look in to.

1440p is tough on a single GPU, but do bear in mind that you won't have to max out anti-aliasing like you would on a 1080p screen. Have a look at 780ti reviews for 1440p performance. From my quick search, it looks pretty impressive. Crysis 3 at 60 fps, according to this one: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7492/the-geforce-gtx-780-ti-review/8

If you do want to be safe and go SLI, I'd go for a couple of 780s rather than 780ti's. They'll give you plenty of grunt, and save you a fair bit of money.

I built my first PC a couple of months ago and it was pretty simple, really. Just put things where they fit. There are plenty of videos on youtube to help you. Have a look for Newegg's how to build a PC series: it will give you an idea of whether you'd be comfortable going it alone.

If you have an OS you could re use that money and get a descent cooler for OCING, a smidgen over sorry lol

IF you drop down to this 8gb of the same ram you wouldd have 75 (more than enough) for a good cooler or get you close to your 1500 budget

Heres an SLI build but its a descent bit over

Merry Christmas to you all =)

Thanks for the suggestions above all - very much appreciated along with the advice.
I think I've just about made my decision - and it's to wimp out and not custom build:/ I don't have the experience or the dexterity to do it justice.

My monitor is to be purchased tomorrow - a Qnix 27inch 1440p monitor (oc'able to 120hz) - a tidy price too but not from here so I'll not link it.

As for the machine I've almost made my mind up :

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-364-OE - The 450i Sabre - couple of things changed in the build mind - a 780ti ofcourse - 2tb drive and the phantom enthusiast case in red+white.

The processor is a 4770k clocked at 4.3 - healthy OC but not ott.

Or am I better off going for the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-428-OE&groupid=43&catid=2475&subcat=2489 - the case looks more diminutive than the phantom though - more clustered.

With these system builds - If asked for a few more changes before purchase - are these possible? Wouldn't mind a slightly higher wattage cpu & 16gb of Ram + a bit of LCD colouring inside.

Confused.com!! lol

Stop wimping out and build your own :D It really isn't that difficult and it gives you great satisfaction once you have it up and running :) There are loads of videos on youtube that will guide you through, and of course you have the many people on here to help.

Have a watch of this to give you an idea

If you decide after that you want ocuk to build it then you can alter the spec by ringing customer services.

Merry Christmas :)

Monitor shipped :D

I've changed my mind again, still gonna get OCUK to build - but customising a build:

NZXT Phantom 820 Enthusiast Ultra Tower Case - White
Stage 2 Intel: Overclock of CPU - 4.3GHz Overclock - Haswell K Edition Processors Only
Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
Akasa AK-CC4008HP01 Venom Voodoo CPU Cooler
Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYD316G2133HC11ADC01)
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 WindForce 3x OC Rev2.0 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (GV-N780OC-3GD) - This will be a 780ti but it's out of stock at the sec.
Samsung 128GB SSD 840 PRO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7PD128BW)
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD
Pioneer BDC-207DBK 8x BluRay ROM / DVDRW SATA-II Optical Drive - Black (OEM)
Be Quiet Power Zone 850W '80 Plus Bronze' Fully Modular Power Supply

Almost there... me thinks.

I like the custom lighting and room in the 820 =)

Have moved the configurator to include the Corsair power supply
- The alpenfohn Mount doom isn't available to select - would be one of those phone to change things?

I still have a while before I order - need to get one or 2 more things & the gfx chip is out too.

PS. Is there an option to save my current config on the ocuk site?

Ty for your reply lee.

EDIT: Just seen your updated post - Sexeh! - does the switch 810 have the lighting presets also?

Yeah you might have to ring them if the K2 isn't available in the configurator. It should save your basket, at least it does when I do a spec.

As for the case lighting I don't think the switch has the LED's on the front, but you could always fit some inside to show off the hardware such as the strip below. If you feel you prefer the 820 then don't let me put you off. I was just looking at ways to save you some money without compromising the build.

1 x NZXT CB-LED10-WT 12x White LED Sleeve - 1m £9.98
