you were right, i just ran the focus back through confused.com, and it came back £400 cheaper... but as things stack up these are the quotes i have atm:

It looks like your comparing cars with big value differences. All of the other cars are 97, 98 etc while your focus is 2001. Hence why it would be more to insure. Its worth more.

All insurers do this (at least, I've never heard of one that doesn't).

They don't - almost all either dont change the price, or increase it. Admiral Group appears to be the exception.

Car value doesn't make much, if any, difference to quote.

Try it - go and get a quote for a £2500 S reg Focus 1.6 Zetec and then for a £9000 55 plate one. It'll be the same.

Do quotes for comprehensive as well as TPFT - comprehensive is sometimes cheaper than TPFT!

Also, in the UK anyway, adding your parents is a great way to get money off your insurance, as long as they both have clean licenses.

Have you been a named driver on your fathers policy for a year? If you can prove that then some places might give you a discount for it. (quinn direct do)

As a final note - do pass plus or something similar, should bring down your insurance further.

That took 15 mins to write (baddly) and add picture, lol. Any views?

The 5 door's aren't rubbish, excessive use of the back seats in the 3 door cars, knackers out the seat rails and they never stay properly. Phase 1 car's are starting to look v.old now, though the Phase 2's still look fairly fresh for their age cos the 206 still looks similar.

The engines are solid, and the bodywork even holds up very well, Non essential electricals leave a bit to be desired, and interior build quality is poor.

Still the cars are good lookers and i never regretted buying mine.

Well I'm not to keen on the 5 tbh, its a bit ugly. I love the look of the Mk 1 3dr in black or blue (thats why I got one I guess) just think they look a bit dated but in a good way, not quite up to the standard set by the 205 yet though. If you dont mind the look and the interiour on the 5 doors then there are some total bargins to be had out there, but there not for every one, me included.

But like you say, they run well, but interior will start to fall apart and the electrics can be a bit didge, although fine in mine so far touch wood!
