Looking To Buy A CPU Cooler.

Well, it took me quite a lot longer than 10 minutes, but all seems to be working okay. :D

Despite being as careful as I could, I think I may have put a little more paste on than required, but for my first ever installation of a fancy cooler, I'm pleased with how things went.

Couple of minor blips along the way.....I had the mounting bars upside down, so when I went to screw on the main part of the cooler (the fins), there was no thread to turn into. :D Oh, and the fans, they were a bit of pain to get sorted.

Idle temps are now in the 20s as opposed to the 30s.

I fired up Wolfenstein : The New Order for an hour to check the difference, and can happily report that an anything up to 35C has been shaved off. I noticed when playing the other day just how hot the cpu got in game (mid to high 70s), hence why I thought this would be a good one to test.

Edit : Oh, I should add that these tests have been done with the cpu at stock. :)

great stuff. The U14 only has 1 fan, so slightly less pain on that side. Honestly the hardest part was holding on to the backplate and screwing the brackets on opposite sides of the motherboard.
V happy with outcome overall, though i haven't had time to test it at load.

Hi,

Sorry to ask a question on someone elses' thread. i'm thinking of overclock the same CPU as the OP, however i'm stuck with sizes, I was looking at the Cooler Master EVO 212 but I have 4x4 Corsair Vengence RAM, some sites say it will fit, some say no it won't. so i'm a bit confused.

What motherboard and case are you using? I know Noctua specifically tell you whether a case and motherboard are compatible with their coolers.

Glad to hear you got it sorted mate. Quite a substantial temp drop too. Theese big heatsinks can be a bit fiddly to fit, the number of mistakes ive made fitting my current k2 is huge.:o:D

Thanks. :) It took me quite a while as although my case has a space cut out for the backplate, it didn't quite fit as the plate would catch the edge of the casing. So, this meant that I had to unscrew the motherboard, then remove the graphics card. :o :D

Ran into the exact same problem on an old lian li a70f case. Thankfully the cut out on my current primo is a lot bigger.

At first I thought that I must have installed the motherboard slightly skewiff, but after checking quite thoroughly, it did seem that it was simply a case (no pun intended :D) of a not quite big enough space (about 2 - 3 mm out). :)

Btw, in particular, the encoding temps are what I am most pleased with (85 down to 51). :)

Edit : Just checked out your case on the site, very nice. I've never yet really had a case that I've been totally happy with. Hmmm (ponders a new case). :D

I was tempted to cut the hole on the lian li but then got worried about resale value. Not that it eventually mattered as i ended up giving it to a mate. Id say the primo is probably the best case ive owned, well built, spacious and makes for a nice clean looking setup. Aka shove all the cables behind the mobo tray.:D

Cheers, I'll bear that in mind. They do make some nice gear. :)
