Looking To Buy A CPU Cooler.

The medusa looks good going by reviews, and its cheaper than the D15. The noctua D14 is a similair price and probably performs the same, but personally i think the fans supplied with their coolers look terrible.

Yeah, I see where you are coming from. I don't mind the look of the Noctua style, though it certainly isn't my favourite.

When I look at the brown / cream look of the cooler / fans, it reminds me of something a little like this :

Mind you, I must put a good word in for the buttons; I used to collect different coloured ones from my Dad's old cable cardies. :D

Yes, it does rather seem as if Noctua is the 'Daddy' of coolers. :)
Yep, noctua have a great reputation for quality coolers. I actually considered the D14 myself but the similairly performing k2 popped up on the market at that time and was much cheaper. Though i didnt use the stock fans on it much as i preferred the look of others i had lying about.

Lol at the pic mate.:D

Noctua have different fans with colour highlights being released soon (if not already, but not sure who is stocking them).

If you can't see the fans though, it makes no difference

Where is the anodised-black + orange+black fan Noctua at? :)

They've been reluctant to change their aesthetics forever, despite a trail of tears from their fans. I don't know if they are just trolling them, or are as rigid as they get with the whole 'company ethos' and 'image' thing. They've been a really successful company so far, with a very specific brand image (because the color scheme is so uniquely ugly no-one would ever copy them), so why would they bother. But still, wouldn't it be nice to have a special 'stealth' edition of their most popular products. Maybe a NH-D14 revival.

And the tears roll on...

Can't see it ever recommended on here...but I got the Arctic Cooler 13 Pro and I think it's amazing. dropped me a solid 25 if not more over stock. easy to fit, don't need to remove motherboard. I like it.

I used to have an Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro 2, I think it was. Amazing value for money. :)

I've got the 140mm Akasa fans in my case and they're superb. Really cannot fault them. They may not be the best thing to look at but heck they move air and do their job.

Cheers for the info, snips86x. I rather like the Akasa range. :)

Rendering a video right now; seeing temps on the cores as : 77 / 81 / 81 / 83.

If money no object then go for a Noctua.

I set myself a budget of £15 for my last cooler and went with the ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2, installation did not require removal of motherboard and it's a lot quieter than the stock cooler.

The Macho line of coolers have been around for years now and are still one of the best.

The only down side is the 3-pin 800rpm TY-142 instead of the exquisite 4-pin PWM 300-1300rpm TY-147A. You will not believe how much better they are if you have never used them.

That is not saying the limited edition TY-142 is not a decent fan, it just doesn't compare to the production TY-147A fan.

I can't say I'm a fan of any fan :D But the stock fans that come with it spin around 800.RPM each and you can't hear them at all. And with results like this you can't really complain. Keeps my OC 8350 nice and cool

While DRP3 is about 2-3c warmer than D15 at full speed under full load it is also quieter.

How often is your CPU working at full load on all cores? Mine does only when I'm rendering graphics, and even then it is just barely audible .. just enough so I know it's working it's little butt off.

I have done this wiht DRP2, DRP3, NH-D14, NH-D15, R1 Ultimate, R1 Universal, PH-TC14PE, Silver Arrow, Silver Arrow SB-E, Silver Arrow IB-E, Archon, Archon IB-E, TRUE Spirit 140 power, TRUE Spirit 140 Rev.A HR-02, HR-22, Macho varients, Macho Zero, H-5, and the list goes on. They all do a good job of it.

The Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 looks pretty good. :D Looking at grabbing one of these for the new build!

Dark Rock 3 has been a amazing cooler so far. It blows away any of the Corsair AIO Liquid coolers. In fact I'm so happy I'm staying on air from now on.

I don't see all that much difference in temps. My i7 6700k is getting 25c idle and 60c full load D15 is truly a fugly cooler. If you have a windowed case the Dark Rock 3 looks the part. Some don't care about looks, but I wanted both performance and looks with the dark rock 3 you get both.
