Hi guys, I'm an old school pc gamer who lost his way and fell to the dark side and became a console owner for a few years. As a result I haven't kept up with the latest developments with pc hardware but I'm now ready to return to pc gaming with a passion and had my eye on this beauty from Overclockers.

A few questions for the more enlightened among you ;)

Is 16 gig of ram too much, can I make do with 8?
Windows 8 or Windows 7?
Was thinking of getting a 7950 boost rather than stock, thoughts?
Is a SSD a necessity these days for the OS? recommendations?
Do I get Far Cry 3, and the other games with this system/ AMD card?
What's a decent 24" monitor for games and surfing?
And lastly spec me a decent illuminated keyboard and gaming mouse.

Thanks for your help!
Once I know what I'm getting, I can't wait to get it ordered and set up :)

The sweet spot for current gaming is 8GB RAM and probably will be for many more years. In Battlefield I notice I only use like 6.2GB even with a few other applications running.

I personally like Windows 7 more.

If you are comfortable with overclocking, I would get the stock and overclock that. You could match it's performance, or even exceed it.

SSD's can make a massive improvement over the overall "feel" of your system. Generally it will be more snappy. I, and many others, would recommend a Cruical or a Samsung SSD.

Not sure about the games :(

Not sure about a decent monitor, but I have a 22" Asus one which I really enjoy.

Not sure about a mouse.

you will get far cry 2 and 3 and i imagine it will come with the free amd games.

7950 is a really good card interms of price/performance.

ssd is a good option, loading times are excellent, a really worth upgrade. 60gb will do for the os and 120 is better for other frequently used items.

For a mouse the logitech g400 is really good as is the siderwinder x4 keyboard.

If your into FPS's then the benq XL2420T is great or if you prefer better colour reproduction the dell u2412m is also brilliant.

Had the dell about 4 months and it really is the best monitor I have owned.

Ignore the haters and get Windows 8 if you want all the new features and support it offers. Just because people don't like it doesn't mean it is bad. The new interface caused some controversy that's all. Once you get used to it it is a much more snappy OS which boots an awful lot quicker.

I personally find windows 7 easier to use, but that is because I don't use windows 8 often enough to adapt. But I will when I have to.

What haters? Be interesting to know how you came to that opinion.

Such HATRED. :D

lol :p

There is spite just dripping off of that comment :D

I have W8 on a small ssd, as I bought it for £25. I still use and prefer W7 atm, especially for gaming. Just play around with W8 when I`m bored, to get used to it and get a better feel.

I used to have windows 8 on my laptop, and on there in all honesty, I loved it. I have windows 7 on my desktop because I don't think I could use windows 8 as productively as I use windows 7 on desktop.

I have windows server 2012 with workstation modifications (feels almost the same as Windows 8) on my server (desktop) and I really don't like it on there :p

I wasn't referring to your comment when I said "ignore the haters" :)
Rather all the hate filled reviews and videos etcetera online.

I think I'll be sticking with Windows 8. I know pretty much what I'm going to be getting now. The only thing I'm struggling with is the monitor.

What sort of budget are you looking at in regards to a monitor. You could get a very decent Samsung 24" LED for about £130.

Well I'll actually pay a bit for a decent monitor. No point paying loads of money for a decent rig only for the display to let me down. Ideally don't want to pay more than £300. Had a look at the 120 hz BenQ's but I want something that will give me a better picture than a TN.
