So my cousin is getting a gaming PC for Christmas and im building it being the clever person i am ;)
So he currently has a zoostorm, with a celeron G16** and a gigabyte ga-h61m-ds2 motherboard... He also has 6gb of ram, which i thought oo why not throw that into his new pc, saves 40-60 that can be better used on cpu/gpu.
I noticed the motherboard has a high cpu support list, and i was wondering, Would getting him a Ivy Bridge i3 or i5 be better than getting an AMD 6300 and a new mobo?
If you could recommend me some parts or anything for the build, would be awesome as im stuck, I would like to order off OCUK, as i will for mostly everything in the build, but i noticed they dont have much stock of ivybridge intel cpus, and i dunno whether it is aloud to say, but i can use amazon aswell?
I am stuck on ideas, and he wants to order now to get it in time for Christmas lol, so if you can recommend what i do, for every part, in a £350 inc postage budget, that would be amazing!
Also for the GPU, i would like AMD, as I use them, and have been nothing but brilliant and have better £ for performance imo, and ive done a lot of research, and keep up to date with my gpus, just not anything else as much lmao.
Thank you in advance!

Going AMD is pretty much a downgrade so forget about that. There's always the pentium route

Yeah, i personally have a 8320 and like it, but if i could, would probably take a 4690k instead, but anywho, i quite liked the look of the pentium, but its a dual core, we are getting to the point where a quad core is needed, and hence the i5... I can get a i5 3550 for £140, which to me isnt a bad deal, and means he wont need to swap motherboards...
I was originally considering the pentium however, but those on tomshardware said not too...
I dont really like that forum as most people always go for the ridiculously expensive option, much prefer here, but was asking about other sites and i know yous are sometimes a little bit funny on mentioning other websites...

Avoid Tomshardware. They're not enthusiasts. Overclocked Pentium will easily run BF4 Multiplayer

I would be tempted to upgrade the motherboard to the latest bios and drop in a second hand i5 2500/2600/3570 or similar. Do not buy brand new at this stage in 1155's life. If buying new it would be just as well to go with Haswell but that's all the money gone and nothing left for the gpu. He won't be able to overclock so it wouldn't have to be the "k" version of the cpu. He will have more money to spend on the psu/gpu that way while still getting a big boost over what he is running now.

Good to know ;) Never been keen on it, just people with too much money and limited experience... oh well lol, and you think the pentium will be the best choice for him? He will want to play Bf4, farcry 4 etc?
Also, any recommendations on motherboards, GPUs and power supplys? also, a nice sleek case for cheap (looking at you mr. nzxt source 210 in black) ;)

Okay, good news, hes ordered it, and is currently awaiting delivery! Shall let you guys know what OC i get on the cpu when it arrives!
