... for as little cost to myself as possible! :p

Canon ideally. I'm thinking maybe a 5DMkI? Are there any better options for that kinda money?

Also, I'm currently perma-suspended from the 'bay , so any recommendations for where to buy with good prices would be awesome! :D

Well, you choices are rather limited

FF canons are

1Ds and its variants, 5D & 5Dii.

So yes, 5D would be the cheapest way. I don't know if you can get 1Ds for less than a 5D. Not to mention the 1Ds came out in 2002, and the 5D came out in 2004/5.

I wouldn't say L is essential, it's nice but if you have good 3rd party lenses they still produce fantastic shots on full frame.

What I meant was he's going to need L glass or primes for it to work on full frame. Normal crop lenses won't work otherwise.

Thanks all!

And Phate, there are enough non-L zoom lenses for me, but a 35mm f2 or maybe a Sigma 30mm f1.4 would be shweeeet! :)

A Canon 35L would also be nice if I happen to meet Mr. Lin in a dark alley :p

The Siggy 30mm unfortunately is a DC (cropped sensor only) :(
I've just droped my savings on the 5DMKII, had my hands on it for 10mins before going to bed. Test shots tonight/tomorrow! Woo!

Although tbh buying a full frame camera then none L glass which will affect your IQ = pointless imo. Primes being the exception!

The 5D had risen in price second hand and silly money was being asked (around £800 with grip), so for a little bit more I bought a 1Ds2. It's bit of a beast though! It does however look like the 5D second hand prices have settled again now though, I saw one sell the other day with grip for £560.

Phate, the vast majority of the time, FF actually improves sharpness of mediocre lenses, not reduces them.

I didn't say otherwise? :)

My point is your spanking a load of money on a FF sensor, get the glass on there which will out perform it so you are not limited by the glass. Why risk restricting it?
