I'm considering getting my first smartphone ever and have up to £200 to spend.

I have done my own research and quite like the Samsung Galaxy Ace.

These are my uses of the phone.

- Web browsing and watching videos form youtube, videobb, megavideo etc. (Most important thing to me)
- Power, I would like it to be as fast as possible with reasonable battery life
- Being able to use it as both a music and video player. it has to be atleast mp4 compatible
- Reasonable resultion screen, atleast 320x480 resultion
- GPS (nice feature to have)
- Micro SD so I can put in more memory space.
- Actual Phoning, texting (I dont use the phone that often but it is good to have the ability and only have to carry one device)

OR should I wait till next year so phones like the Samsung galaxy S1 or equivelant fall in my price range?

EDIT: Is the GPS in the Samsung Galaxy S1 a proper one and connects with sattelite or does it use 3G network and cost money and is the navigation app free/preinstalled or does it have to be bought?

I would suggest the Orange Monte Carlo/SanFran over the Wildfire any day, if only for the screen. The Motorola Defy can also be had for around £200 and has a great CPU/GPU.

You can get the Huawei U8800 for £174 SIM free, the Sony Xperia Mini for around £160 from Orange and the HTC Desire for around £190 from Orange. These all have ARM7 Snapdragon SOCs with the Adreno 205 GPU.

Grab a pre owned galaxy s or a defy, both can be had for as little as 150 if you shop around, nothing else to touch them for the money

Could you post the link for the HTC desire for £190 that seems to be a bargain

I have been looking at the Orange Monte Carlo which costs £150 vs the HTC Wildfire S £150

Orange / HTC
CPU 800MHz / 600MHz but overclockable
RAM 512MB / 512MB
HDD 512MB / 512MB
SS 4.3 Inch / 3.2 Inch
SR 480x800 / 320x480

The HTC has better overall build quality and camera but doesnt the Orange seem a better deal with a bigger and better resolution screen and higher clocked CPU (though this part can be overcome by the HTC through overclocking)

Does the Orange Monte Carlo have any other downsides?

Only thing I can think of is that it is very glossy and doesn't have HTC sense (if you're bothered)

You say the wildfire s can be overclocked, yes, but not by 200MHz.
