Having issues with items plugged into the pc and wondered if the motherboard is needing replacement, total novice with building systems and the problems that come along lol

If you can describe the issues you are having and what kit you are using/trying to use we can probably diagnose it for you. Could be a compatibility/driver issue rather than hardware.

If you don't already have it update the board to the latest bios. For some reason Gigabyte boards, especially Z77 ones, can be very picky if running on old bios versions. Find out what revision of the board you have and which bios version you are running (cpu-z will tell you under the motherboard tab) and download the latest version from Gigabytes website. Put it on a usb stick (fat 32) and flash it using Q-Flash in the bios.

The issue I am having is with a webcam and it's internal mic, for some reason I cannot increase the volume from zero and have tried everything that I know of, it is driving me mad lol

You can tell skype to use the mic but you have to tell windows that it is allowed to use it. PC Settings -> Privacy -> Webcam and Mic are set to "on" ?

Run through the checks as that should let us know that it's detected and installed. The basic sound recorder check should work if the mic is configured and on.

It looks like the webcam software has video capture so see if the mic works within it's own software if so then it's juat a set up issue with other apps.

It has a how to in the manual for the video capture.

No sound within its own software either, the sliders still remain at zero on every volume control for the mic and do not move. the webcam is detected within the tests also. Think this has to be the strangest problem I have ever encountered
