looking to update my mobo , ram and cpu for under £400 ( AMD )

hello i am looking to upgrade my computers mobo , cpu and ram to £400 i think i am going to use a phenom 6x2.8 ghz processor but not sure about the rest many thanks

if all you want is cpu, mobo and ram, surely a sandybridge i5 setup would cost a little over £400 would it not?

Well you get a stock cooler but I believe they make a racket!

I'd get this, I used one myself in a recent build & its very quiet.

The cpu comes with a new HSF, it is the most basic thing, but it works.

X6 really isn't very good for gaming, so an X4 would be better.

Even if OP does decide with AMD, that ram is £20 more expensive and worse than this

Because you end up with a lot of cores sat there doing nothing, and it has a relatively low clock speed.

In all honesty, SandyBridge is your best choice atm, look at the benchmarks!
For a similar price you're getting much better performance.

On the cooler you have atm you can easily overclock the i5 2500k to over 4.4GHz (max you can realistically get with that cooler on a Phenom is 3.8GHz) so it will be even faster.
