Since my 670 is beginning to slow down a fair bit in recent games I want to upgrade (since it's hard for me find a 670 to SLI with from a trusted place).

I've never really looked much at AMD, all I know is the 290/x is apparently on par with the 780/Ti correct? The price is somewhat lower which has me pulled in slightly.

Gaming at 1920x1080 on a 60hz BenQ.

I see a few 780's with the 7000 Mem clock, but most AMD equivalents only have 6000 or so. How much of a big impact is this?

Budget is £400 give or take £20 here and there.

Cheers.

Edit: I think I did this thread some while ago but that was prior to the new AMD cards and I "think" 780's.

If you play bf4 or are going to get the new thief game or other upcoming AMD / Mantle games then a regular 290 is as good as anything at 1080 res.

If you want it for specific games you play then list them here and maybe you will get some unbiased views.

a 780 and a r290 are about equal except in bf4 with the new mantle api where the 290 will be better, Some people report some problems with bf4 and mantle at the minute but that should be ironed out soon.

The 780Ti is faster than a 290x I believe by a few FPS but not much just like a 290x is faster than a 780 by a few FPS but still not much however a 290 is on par with a 780. However im going on this from benchmarks ive seen which are mostly made up from reference 290/x so don't know how non reference cards hold up tbh. But I would say go for either a 290 or a 780 with that budget depending on which you would prefer to go for AMD or Nvidia.

I did have my eye on the Tri-X it looks amazing.

Game wise: Assetto Corsa, AC4, BF4 (when I pick it up) Those are the main titles.

Mainly play Simulators like ETS2 and Race07 but just want something for the more mainstream, demanding games. Thanks for the advice so far though :)

Well AC4 obviously has some Nvidia only touches were as B4 as some slight improvements for ATI with mantle.

I don't play the simulators so cant give you an opinion on that, however I am sure others can.

Comes down to preferences at the end of the game after you've looked at some benchmarks for the particular games in question. I bet ATI wins some and Nvidia wins others.

670 is a very good card at 1080p I dont really see the need to upgrade, but if you have to id get a sapphire 290 tri cooler im sure ive seen them for around 340+

780 or 290 , 780ti or 290x
Either way imo you will be happy which you go for really is up to you all 4 are great cards if you want the best your in the 780ti/290x bracket if you want great performance on a cheaper scale 780,290 Which for your resolution is where i would spend your $$

I had a gtx 670 sli setup. Got rid of one and bought a 780 ghz card.

I also have a 7970 platinum in the other pc.

In my opinion, the 780 ghz edition is a good choice because it doesn't need overclocking. I just play games now without faffing about.

I did overclock it at first and got good results especially with the memory going over 7ghz with ease.

I don't know about the 290's but my 7970 only plays ball with the one driver in the last 3 months. I actually thought the card was broken as it kept artifacting.

It was Bailey from here who helped my figure out that it was driver related. I haven't changed drivers since and have had no problems.

At only 1080p/60hz, a 780 or a 290 is kind of overkill anyway. Why pay for more for little benefit?

Let us know if it was worth it. I am in the same boat, but i have no idea what to get atm.

OMG totally worth it. Didn't realise my Palit 670 was soo noisey until I turned this on, thought my pc hadn't booted lol

The Asus 780 is epic and I love the backplate. BF4 with everything ramped up is lovely.
