I'm looking to upgrade either my gfx card or my cpu+mobo, but not sure which will give me the best upgrade.

current gfx card is a gtx 460 and cpu/mobo is i5 760 @ 3.8Ghz n p7p55d-e

was looking at either getting a 7850/70 or i5 3570k and mobo.

thanks

I would probably be inclined to upgrade the GPU, The i5 760 should be fine for a little while longer.

Best option is to upgrade your graphics now and then upgrade to Haswell later on in the year. That will set you up with a really good rig.

This will mean spending ~£150 now and ~£250 later.. ~£400 in all.

I still own a 1GB 460 (overclocked heavily). I'm happy to hold onto it till the next gen of GPUs. However the fact that it is still gaming capable now will mean that someone will happily take it off your hands for a budget upgrade to their rig.

Your CPU is overclocked so you are getting better performance than an Ivy i3. I think I'd be tempted to grab a GPU like the 7870XT which is closely related to the 7950 or better still get a "full fat" 7950. As AMD are giving away games too it makes for a nice upgrade. You could consider keeping the 460 and dedicating it for CUDA and PhysX support perhaps?

1 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £251.99
1 x Sapphire HD 7870 XT rev2.0 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Tomb Raider & Bioshock PC Games £209.99
Total : £461.98 (includes shipping : FREE).

With Haswell due in a couple of months upgrading the mobo bundle doesn't make a great deal of sense now.

Either of these 2 cards would be a better investment in the £200 area. Both are able to OC to 7950 speeds. Although OCUK are waiting on delivery for the VTX3D, but you could inquire through Customer Services, as to when it may be in stock.
