Loop upgrade - Fluid choice recommendations

Halfords Battery water lol, me and a few others on here use it and never had any issues. About £5 for a 5 litre bottle, i've been using this stuff for around 8 years now.
Ive used asda water and biocide for about 15 years. Never had a issue. Anything else is snake oil imo

Do you add any biocide?
I used to do this with my very first build over 12 years ago. But changed to X1 clear as it was relatively cheap back then. I can see it has gone up since.
This thread reminds me that I need to check/clean my loop which is about 2 years running with X1 clear with only a small top up.

Nope, no biocide. I clean my loop with a blitz kit, run it through with deionised water and flush it out then top again with deionised water. Have used Halfords stuff for 10+ years now at this point and it's never let me down, no corrosion, no flaking of plating etc.

Ya I use a few drops of biocide..

hi mate, yes a couple of drops

I wanted an orange, and the mayhems just didn't look like the right shade, so used yellow cryofluid, with a few drops of red dye until I got the shade I wanted.
Mayhems non-stain dyes are designed to be mixed and matched. Easy enough to whip up the exact orange you want. I'd be sceptical about adding dyes to Cryofuel after the fact.

I just use the EK premix blood red ( not the solid color version ) Im happy with it and it was on sale for a couple of quid off per bottle last time I bought a couple of litres

I find that I get growths with EK Cyrofuel not longer after 12 months.
Really tempted to try Prestone. I have some in the garage.

Propylene Glycol? That's an interesting one. Any particular reasons for using it?
Easy to obtain, cheap, and safe to handle compared to the the ethylene glycol equivalent (anti-freeze).

If you get a solution of around 20% propylene glycol to distilled water, you have a cheap and easy solution that is a biocide and corrosion inhibitor - it also act as an anti-freeze also if you need it.

Sure it has higher viscosity and lower thermal conductance if you compare it to straight water, but it is not noticeable in a normal environment.

I’ve moved from EK Cyrofuel to Aqua Computer DP Ultra. As there has been no stock of the clear around for ages and I wanted to get a loop clean and flush done.

It maybe a placebo but it seems to run a few degrees cooler than the EK does. I’ll continue to monitor it and see how it goes. Also my AC flow meter has picked up the DP ultra and shows how clean it is.
