Lorry Driver!

I could see it being a nice job to do occasionally as it would allow you to skill up or explore interests and what not as you're driving, but I wouldn't want to do it for any length of time.

Can't see any social side to the job, it's pretty unskilled (for the most part) and I guess its hard to get out of it.

Unsocial, certainly.

Unskilled? I'd strongly disagree with that view.
Truck driving is something you gain skill doing, over years.
It's the kind of job you never stop learning about, and the kind of vehicle you have to treat with respect or, it will bite you and bite hard.

Put your average car driver in a 6 axle artic and ask him to reverse it (blind side) into a tight loading bay with cars parked around it and THEN tell me it's unskilled!! ;)

at the end of the day the wage lorry drivers command tells you all you need to know about the skill required.

If it was unskilled labor, the day trippers would be on barely above minimum wage. I'll give you a clue on what they do earn, and it most certainly isn't that ;)

I'll tell em what I earned last year ...

32k

That's for night trunking..Sunday night to Thursday night.. and One Friday O/T every three weeks. Job & finish.

Each night is sometimes 5 hours going to Redditch or Luton or 9 hours Taunton & back, 7 hours for Dover, 8 hours for Liverpool etc.

I packed in the driving last August to become a yard shunter. Had enough of the idiots on the road and the way drivers are treated where I work..

Loving it now, 8 hour shifts and no hassle. 40 hour week Thur, Fri days off and earned £29,700 last year..

Here's mine!! :)

And here's one (not driven by me) that needs a bit of TLC....

Hi i am looking to become a hgv driver. I live in the west midlands and i am wondering if anyone has any advice as to which driving school i should use? My interest was peaked by a scam agency that turned out to be a bit of a joke after i looked into it. But i am still interested in the job and was just hoping for some advice?

I would imagine Scanny'll tell you same as me..ie: aint got a clue what HGV schools are in your area. !

Might be of use joining a Truck group on FB. See if they can recommend West Midland HGV Training schools.

Me doing a Blind side reverse...
