Lorry trashed the side of my car

or the lorry driver could have used his head and realised there was always going to be a car on his left, and driven accordingly. This is a busy roundabout with a 20+ car queue in both lanes.

What he should just sit there and not move for hours because idiots keep driving up alongside him ?

The cars alongside should back off and give him room, as per the highway code.

I wouldn't class myself as an idiot for waiting in a queue next to a lorry.

I wasn't following the lorry as per the highway code.

You were following it onto the roundabout.

I was moving up to roundabout entrance, to make my assessment on whether I could go. I would have waited for the lorry to completely enter the roundabout before exiting left. I didn't make it to the entrance of the roundabout. The lorry hand the entire roundabout space to turn, but it turned too soon and came across my entrance lane.

Had I been in that situation I would done one of two things.

Either, if I was already stationary in a queue when the lorry came up alongside,
I would not move forward at all, until the lorry has gone, if anything and situation allows I'd actually reverse slightly and give the lorry even more room.

Had I been approaching the roundabout and saw the lorry waiting to turn, I would not have continued approaching the roundabout, but stopped short behind said lorry until he had completed his move and got well out of the way then carried on with my journey.

But then I am an advanced driver with over 40 years incident free driving in everything from scooters, motorbikes, cars, lorries, buses, tracked vehicles and steam engines.
So I am constantly looking ahead and working out what can go wrong and being well out of the way in case it does.

That the moment he got out of his cab and tried to shift the blame onto me I'd stop being nice and cordial and get on the phone to the police.

Duff advice there, Police don't come out and decide who was at fault for minor damage car crash!

Good luck OP, its one of those that you can see from both points of view but really sounds like the lorry driver didnt see you or got his distances wrong.

Happened to me and a Tesco lorry once. Tesco accepted full responsibility right away. The lorry driver didn't even know he had hit me!

Phone head office and kick up a fuss.

So curtesy car dropped off at 15:00 yesterday - an Audi A6 2.0 TDI Ultra. Day rate of £157.. wow.

My car was just collected by the approved Audi body shop. Hopefully it won't take long before it's repaired.

Good news, LV came back to inform me non-fault :) looks like lorry driver did done good.

Glad to hear it! Still really annoying though, definitely one of those incidents where a dashcam would have given you peace of mind had you suspected he was going to tell porkies. Had a lorry just move over into my lane this morning with me still there. Probably should have braked but there was a car up my bottom, put my foot down and got in front before he took me out. Idiot!
