Lost Data (from backup drive)

Hi guys,
I recently did a clean reinstall of windows xp but before I did so of course I backed up all of my files onto my external WD 120GB HDD and double backed up all of my essential data onto disks.

However, after the reinstall I found that my WD HDD had some quite large chunks of data missing, nothing essential fortunately!.. but things I'm disappointed to lose nonetheless.

I was wondering what my options were - if I have any - for recovering that data?

Also, the HDD has a 'syncronise' feature which I used a few weeks ago contained these files, but the syncronised data has since been replaced by the recent syncronise. Will there still be traces of the previous sync?

Kind Regards,
Tig

You could try some of the recovery utilities in the Recovery Software section, try TestDisk first...

Hey thanks, downloaded TestDisk but when I get to choosing the partition type I don't know what to select:

Code:
[Intel ] Intel/PC partition
[EFI GPT] EFI GPT partition map (Mac i386, some x86_64...)
[Mac ] Apple partition map
[None ] Non partitioned media
[Sun ] Sun Solaris partition
[XBox ] XBox partition
[Return ] Return to disk selection

I've had a look at the documentation but can't find anything that explains the choices.

As I mentioned before it's an external Western Digital 120GB USB Passport Hard-drive. Have any idea? I don't want to click the wrong thing and mess it up even more.
