Lost Desktop Icons

Accidently allowed windows to "clean up" unused desktop shortcuts... How do I restore them (I assume they are stored somewhere rather than deleted)?

Are they in the recycle bin.

They should be on the folder on your desktop named "Unused Desktop Shortcuts". Drag and drop from there.

ah - sorted out with a system restore - bit drastic but it worked!
