Lost iphone 13 pro - get a placeholder or latest iphone?

Hi All,

Went on holiday recently and had the unfortunate experience of losing my phone which was an iphone 13 pro 256GB Sierra Blue. I bought it when it was released in 2021. Until this incident took place I had no intention of upgrading to the latest iphone as I am not the type of person to change their device each year. However, since I am without a device I now have a dilemma, either buy an old refurbished iphone now and wait till the next iphone is released in 2025 or just upgrade to the latest iphone 16 pro now. It is not something I follow, but I understand the iphone 17 may is likely to have even better features but no idea how much of a step it will make in improvements. Furthermore, I understand that much of the advertsied features of ios18 for the iphone 16 will not be available until 2025. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

How much is a refurbished 13 pro? That’s what im using and have no intention of upgrading. Smart phone tech has plateaued if you ask me.

I’d be very tempted to just go with that. I’m assuming a new one is about a grand.

Agreed. I have a 13 Pro and zero interest in upgrading as it does everything I need, and no-way I'm paying new phone prices.

I have the 15 pro max because I have homunculus fingers and I wanted to switch entirely over to USB-C, but in my heart if I had the choice, I'd still be using my product red iPhone 12 pro max.

I'd say having moved to iPhones with USB C connectors, it's just so much less hassle in terms of charging cables around the house and out and about etc. Maybe worth considering. I certainly think it's worth it nowadays.

There are some improvements to the cameras through the newer models which are very good now, but beyond that, the experience as a whole is generally the same I've found across the models.

As said above, phones have somewhat plateaued I feel, and the rumours of the next iPhone hardly suggest there is massive features that are worth holding out for at the moment. ( I await to be wrong ! )

The iPhone 16 / pro have only just come out. Just bite the bullet and get the latest one. Difference in cost is well worth it. There are probably some deals around....
