I have a friends laptop (which is quite old), the seller of the laptop has gone out of business, and it is not clear who manufactured it, and have been trying to do a clean install of XP Home, he has also lost the original CD as well.

So I was trying to use an ordinary XP Home (OEM) CD to do the install, using the Product Code that is on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop, however when I come to put the product code in, it tells me it is not correct, however it certainly is correct, as it is taken off the Product Code sticker, and it is the Product Code that was used on the previous install.

How can I install XP Home on this laptop using the Product Code which definitely is legitimate?

Thanks. :)

show us a photo of the coa sticker, (block out the serial)

or just type all the text it has on it

might well need an oem disc

A couple of photos, including one of the manufacturer I reckon:

think that's just a standard XP Home retail disc you need (not oem)

usually they say 'oem product' on them i think..

if you want, email me the key, and i'll test it on my xp home oem and xp home retail discs, i'll do them in a vm, and won't activate etc

Have you tried contacting iQon? Their website looks current to me.

I will give that a go...but if they are going to ask a substantial sum for the XP CD disc, which is quite possible, as it is in south of Ireland, it may not be worth it at the end of the day, as the laptop is quite old....:)
