Hi Guys,

I have recently purchased a 1999 Jap Import Subaru Forester S/TB, the problem being that I have stupidly managed to lose the only key I had, the good news however is that the car was left unlocked, and I have the immobiliser fob, and I believe the key was not coded to the car in any way (as there was an aftermarket immobiliser/alarm fitted from new), however the key had unlock/lock buttons on it which is rather confusing, as both the laserline alarm fob and the original key could lock and unlock the car...

I was just wondering what the best and most cost effective solution to this would be, the other problem being as I purchased the car last week I do not have the V5 in my posession yet, and when having keys made up for previous cars the dealers always wanted to see the V5 before the key could be ordered.

I am in no rush to use the car, as it is only to be used for towing, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Id probably get onto scoobynet to see if this has happened before with other owners, or failing that give a subaru garage or independent specialist a call and see what they suggest. I think given that there is no other key to make a copy of, a new ignition barrel and set of keys would be required.

Thanks for the advice Panthro, I have registered and posted on Scoobynet, so will wait and see what comes of that. Cheers.

You'll probably have to go ask the subaru dealer if the forums don't produce any answers. I dread losing the keys to my forester as the stock alarm system seems to be on par with the one they use in Guantanamo bay - I often manage to lock myself out or set off the alarm when trying to start the car, very humiliating

Well I have managed to find the key, the problem was basically that I stupidly put the set of keys for the subaru on the boot of my merc yesterday morning and drove off down my road, only remembering that they were there last night, however a neighbour was kind enough to recover them and leave them on the pillar at the top of the drive that I discovered this afternoon - very relieved now and thanks for the advice, my first action now is to get a spare cut!
