As for following the plot with Lost, I'm still fully aware of what is going on - but I can't predict what is going to happen (or even speculate anything close to accurately) like I could in previous seasons!

You were right anyway! Fox will also put American Idol at the end of May Sweeps as they will want to bring in a large amount of viewers. I think American Idol is currently the most viewed show in America and so they will also be in for a cut of that money

it bugs me, i watch a lot of American shows and the fragmentation of a seaons is just stupid. 24 seem to be pretty consistent though

24 episodes over 20 weeks. Thats a five month span so it ends during May Sweeps. Lost is (seemingly) only 17 ep's this season and Fringe is still only in its infancy. It went through a 7 episode run before the Network put in an order for a full season. Again, May sweeps seems to be the reason for the spacing between episodes.

that's what i like 24 eps over 20 weeks!

don't start me on prison break.... that started in Sep and will end in may!!

the heroes format of having two volumes per season allowing for a sensible break work to IMO

Heroes only did that because of the writers strike. It basically messed up the filming for certain episodes. To regain viewers they have pressed on with the main story and abandoned several sideline characters.

not sure that is correct... although they are on borrowed time it would seem. i feel i should see it out, however season 3 and 4 have been pants!

Prison Break has about 4 episodes left that start airing Mid April and then that's it finished. Done. End. Etc

There really isn't, I forced myself to the end of season 3 and it just grew tired. Lost is rather convoluted at times and has tested my patience this last half a dozen episodes but Prison Break lost all charm for me at the beginning of season 3.

They did have some good scenes in the second prison they went into though.

yeah it has been drawn out but i feel i should see it to the end now, but after season 2 it did go pear shaped really.
