Lost drama to carry on until 2010

There will be three more series of Emmy-winning TV show Lost before it finally ends in 2010.

A "highly-anticipated and shocking finale" is being planned by TV network ABC, which acknowledged viewers may drift away unless the drama concludes.

Each series will be 16 episodes with no mid-season break, following complaints the last series was divided in two.

The desert-island programme, which stars Evangeline Lilly and Matthew Fox, follows the survivors of a plane crash.

They are stranded in a mysterious location and must come to terms with the other inhabitants of the island as well as the isolation of their new home.

"Due to the unique nature of the series, we knew it would require an end date to keep the integrity and strength of the show consistent throughout and to give the audience the pay-off they deserve," said Stephen McPherson, the president of ABC Entertainment.

Two of the people responsible for the programme - executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse - have agreed to remain until the end of the run.

They said in a joint statement that they had always thought of Lost as a show "with a beginning, middle and end", and hoped fans would be happy knowing that it would now "play out as we've intended".

Lost was once watched by more than 20 million viewers each week in the US.

However, the most recent series drew audiences of about 12 million in its Wednesday evening timeslot.

Viewing figures in the UK have also slipped since it moved to Sky from Channel 4.

Shorter series lengths, and a big end of season 3 finale planned. Finally some answers...?

The US execs must be just a bunch of retards. Seriously. Viewers complained they lost the plot because of the 14 week long mid season break, so what do they do? Shorten the series to 16 episodes without a break. BECAUSE WAITING 8 MONTHS BETWEEN SERIES WILL BE SO MUCH BETTER THAT WAITING 3 MONTHS BETWEEN EACH 12 EPISODES?!! WTF?

God I can't wait till this show ends. It's quite stupidly boring and utterly pointless.
I thought the first season was quite good, then the 2nd season fell apart with the middle 12-16 episodes just being useless padding with flashbacks, that's put me off watching any of season 3 at all I'm glad I had recorded all of season 2 before watching it, I couldn't have imagined how annoying it would be to wait a week between each pathetic episode. (I do the same with 24, not because it's pathetic but because I need to watch just one more.. ;))

Having discussed this in the office the general consensus is that most people really don't care. Everyone is tired of the lack of real answers and 6 of the 10 people in here (me included) have simply stopped watching mid Season3.

Additionally, I also agree with v0n's comment.

great, so I have to wait until 2010 to be able to talk about something other than Lost at lunch time!

Agreed. It's an absolute load of tripe to be honest.

Don't watch it then!

They really need to keep up viewer interest if they plan on carrying on that long.

LOL what? Do they force you to watch it in the orphanage or something?

I'm paying for a Sky subscription, and this tripe is filling slots on various channels when something a hell of a lot better could be on.

Personaly I think this show is getting better and better. Cant see why some people want answers every episode. It has a good pace and the effect of wanting more at the end of each show. Making you want to see the next episode as soon as possible.

For me it never got boring. The flashbacks that people go on about during S2 was good. It told you about each person and how their lives crossed with each other. For me it really was interesting.:)

No. My mates seemed to like it but they find it boring as hell now as nothing ever happens. A few times I've been round there they've stuck in on to watch the latest episode and it's just boring from start to end. Every episode I've seen is crap.

Because without some answers it's just a soap opera.
The big fear I have with them piling soooo much into it is the feeling that the ultimate payoff may not be able to live up to expectation.

The amount of questions that are unanswered after 3 series is already extremely high, add another 3 series to that and the ending really is going to have to be something special.

I hope they already have a decent idea of where they are taking the show and how they expect it to end. If they try and take the easy route and explain a lot of it with simply coincidence or some other lame excuse then it's going to leave a lot of people very dissapointed.
