Ive just installed LOTRO with mines of moria and the siege of mirkwood, and as i wait for all the updates to dl im stuck on what race/class to be.
For race im leaning towards human or hobbit, but class i cant decide.
For most mmorpgs i like to be like a maniac and jump in and be the highest damage dealer with little care for my safety:p

Also i like to solo but i dont want to be alone in this game so is there some very active guilds i could join.

Champion is close range DPS from memory, (jumping in battering stuff) Hunter is far away DPS and probably one of the best starting characters.

I'd always suggest a healer if you want ot level quickly as you'll never have any problem getting groups.

Probably not a good character to start on but burglars are hard as nails

Loremaster is the most versitile class, you want crowd control, insane DPS , pets, debuffs, heals, a twenty foot Ent !!! AoE fire !! ? they have it all.

Runekeeper is a newer class which allows you to change from healer role to sith lord type DPS'er via attunements. An extremely easy class to level with which can attack on the run, massive DPS (if attuned), healing DoTs, AoE heals, Morale boosts , some Crowd control and has one attack that hits higher than any other class upto 4k !!

Captain, now this is a class that makes any groups life nice and easy, they have the highest morale and can buff companies health, attacks, large DPS melee, can heal, can call a soldier(herald), summon party members, ressurect in and out of combat.

Laurelin [EN-RP] is the best server - fact !!! ;p

i took a hunter to 64 and yes it's pretty easy starting char, but as you get higher everyone has one! on the way I've tried an RK (not bad), warden (quite interesting), burglar (couldn't get into it) and guardian (boring as hell) - then I tried a lore master. it is awesome! there's no other word for it - total control over multiple mobs, debuffing, versatile and just plain fun. i feel like a god playing it.

it is also the only class where I can count the number of times I've died on 1 hand (4 in total, first at 24 i was not happy), i can solo stuff I would never have been able to solo with my hunter, and going back to my hunter feels so restricted. i'm level 32 now and have pretty much abandoned my hunter.

as for servers, Snowbourne is mine and my Kin is United Kingdoms.

My Lolmaster is 65, Hunter 64, Burglar 61 and Guardian 60 with 4 other alts around 30-40+ ... total altoholic me ! ;p

The guardian is no longer a boring class, when they gave it Overpower stance (traited ) it raises all damage by 31% and a legendary 2h with +melee targets and you can hit upto 9 mobs same level for upto 800+ each, the class is also decent in PvP now.

I left Snowbourn because the OOC was truly dire and the Ettenmoors was just 50 freeps pewpewing on grams doorstep, Laurelin which although is not idiot free at least has some degree of respect and maturity. A lot of my old Snowy Kinship joined United Kingdoms, wonder if Davidus is still one of your leaders ? tell the numpty he owes me a lot of gold for repairs ;p

Back to the Runekeeper, myself and two mates rolled one each at the same time and levelled together, it was around level 33 that we encountered our first death! you can basically just heal yourself and use auto-attacks to wear any mob down meaning nasty Elites are no problem at all ..

It's still a great game and having bought a founders Lifetime Sub back in the early days has certainly proved worth the cash.

Currently lvl 14 and still enjoying my class, i have died a couple times but thats due to noob mistakes but i survived to lvl10 and got undefeated:)

Anyway i still havent joined a kinship on snowbourn but it aint important at my low level.

Do you know, I have played a lot of MMORPGs over the years. One of the best things about LOTRO is just how good the community is. I think the average age must be at least double that of WoW.

It is so nice not to walk into a town and have general trade spammed with ANAL

It is a fantastic mmo but I fear for it's future.
The last expansion siege of mirkwood has all the signs of a company that has had a lot of layoffs.
It is very linear and small compared to the first 2 volumns.
I have all hopes on the next big expansion but if it doesn't measure up I will have to quit.

The game is definitely full of charcter, some of the locations and the gameplay is amazing. Im in the middle of another wow revival right now, but once thats toast ill probably pick up my loremaster again.

Are loremasters really that good? I had one up to the mid 30's about a year ago, and while it was certainly versatile, it was slow to kill things, and I couldn't really see the point of the cat pet.

Kind of lost interest and went back to levelling a captain / minstrel / hunter.

Has there been any word when the next big xpac arrives and what it will be?
How do the instances and raids compare to WOW?
