Lottery Syndicate

I ran one for several years my tip will be to do it all online and get a set direct payment from the work colleagues it was a nightmare getting the cash of all the players.

And echoing above you need to get a a form written out with the numbers on and whos in it, you all have to sign it ,well thats how it was when i did it until we all ended it due to how hard to getting cash from everyone and them increasing the cost the robbing bar stewards lol

Enjoy

Another reason to get a form signed by all members in the syndicate, is that has been know for the person running the syndicate to deny all knowledge and keep any big winnings for themselves. There can only be one person claim a winning ticket. Legally if the person organising it one 100m and did a bunk with the money, it would be hard for the others to claim without an agreement.

Luckily Camelot do a syndicate pack to make life easy and you can even register with them as a syndicate.

I ran one for a few years and as above, get a form, there's a sample on the lotto site. Make sure you tailor it to you're syndicate and all the rules are on it. Keep the same numbers so there's no argument if you win on a personal ticket, make sure everyone signs etc. For ours we insisted everyone paid in advance, so no pay, no play. £20 every 2 months or so for 15 people,, winnings under £500 used to keep syndicate going until funds ran dry, although most we won in one go was £140.

Even with pay in advance it became a pita as the same usual suspects didn't pay or needed constant nagging to cough up. Plus what started as a core group kept expanding when new people joined the team and caused a bit of resentment when people were told they had to wait to join etc.

Getting the cash is simple - onus is in them to get cash to organiser by 12:30pm on Fruday or they're not included

Organiser buys tickets Friday and immediately e-mails a scan/screen print of tickets and list of people who have bought in that week

list of people who have bought in can be copied and pasted from a spreadsheet containing a list of the regular participants... takes a few seconds to deselect those who haven't paid that week

It can still get messy. i remember one syndicate where the rule was no money, not in it but the syndicate had a repeat order and still bought the same number of lines and they won the jackpot or 5 + 1 that week and refused to pay the guy out who hadn't chipped in. Seem to remember he took the rest of them to court over it.

Use one of the online syndicate websites. Add people to a group then they pay their money in directly and set their numbers up. Any winnings are then split between members that payed up automatically. Job done

that could be easily avoided by doing what I suggested above... then again my idea is more for adhoc syndicates where people are legitimately occasionally playing then not playing etc...

if there was a set regular syndicate and someone did forget but intended to play (and they bought a ticket on his behalf)then that is a bit naff of the colleagues. Frankly in that scenario you get people locked in for a set number of weeks if you're not changing syndicate members on a weekly basis.

It seems like the OP has quietly disappeared, like in a typical Mumsnet thread. Unless he returns for drip-feeding ofc.

Op doesn't live on the Internet, why the attitude problem ? Have I done something to offend you?

Thanks to those who posted useful information, have it sorted now.
