Lotus Eletre - Hyper Electric SUV

Does anyone know why British car manufacturers all seem to make their pre-production and prototype models, that is the ones ls that get hawked around to the press and the like, in wrong-hand drive?

No idea, I would have said because they are not really British but even the Chinese are right hand drive, so it is a bit baffling.

Because rather than just being a relatively small but respected British sports car manufacturer, they're now a global entity trying to appeal to the masses to stay afloat; and they're Chinese-owned now too...

As marmite and gargantuan this SUV looks, I quite like it. Looks better than most of the boring dross you see on a school run, not that I'd ever be able to afford it mind you.

I'll definitely miss it when Hethel stops pumping out sports cars, one of the nice oddities of living round here is the copious amounts of Lotii on the road :D

I went to the customer event at Hethel today and must say I am very impressed!

Personally I think the styling is great in the right colour, that colour being red. Didn't like the yellow but it's all personal opinion.

Boot space looked good at around 650L.

Leg room in the back was OK, but the floor is a little high due to batteries under the floor, not a problem for a child or shorter person (my 5ft 6 friend was fine) but as a 6ft adult it wouldn't be conformable on a long journey.

Space in the front was good, driving position felt nice, infotainment is a big screen that I like with a few physical button.

The two cars that were open were pre-production so not indicative of final fit and finish with some buttons 3D printed but overall the quality felt very good.

If I was in the market for a luxury family EV at this price point then I would have placed a deposit based on what I saw today to at least get a place in the queue. A Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo feels very cramped in comparison, I've not been in an Audi E Tron GT and whilst the reviews are very positive the boot is 2/3rd the size. and in both cases you're looking at starting prices around £90k up to £110k for the car you'd want so very similar to Eletre pricing wise. Speccing a RR Sport to similar level to entry level Eletre with a couple of options seems to have both cars around £93k so comparable but having not been anywhere near a RR Sport, maybe it would be better inside.

Cancelled my order based upon seeing it in the flesh in Manchester.

Visibility on the cabin outwards was poor and just didn’t like it.

It’s happening. It’s not bad if done right. Only thing is they are more expensive so will take a long time to be adopted.

Because they are screens Led lights flicker which is quite a nuisance but I am sure that will improve over time. Also the lack of any depth perception which can make reversing difficult. If the sun is low and directed at the cameras you are also basically blind.
