How would Lotus Notes 8 serve as a stand alone office package offering word processing, email, calendering etc - all writing open format files?

The IBM site seems to say £80 for a single user.

But have I heard that the Notes Groupware agents might soon be part of the Open Office Suite?

I'd check how much Notes Server will set you back first since you won't be going anywhere without that.

I haven't seen Notes 8 in action yet so can't comment on the new office apps stuff.

For email it's pretty poor, fine for text but any kind of rich format gets screwed when you send to anyone other than a Notes user. Where it really comes into it's own are the collaboration tools, the shared databases and the like. You can do some great stuff but you need a lot of custom development effort to really make it fly.
