Lotus's new ride height adjustment system deemed legal by the FIA

You're looking at it from the regulatory side, look at it from the side of the viewer and non-nerd.

I will... as soon as the sport is regulated by viewers and non-nerds...

Because the device has been deemed to affect aero, it has therefore been deemed illegal within the existing regulations.

Congratulations to Red Bull on winning the 2012 season....But seriously, the FIA need to mix it up a bit, have another Brawn 09 season

The FIA are applying the regulations. Would you rather they didn't?

Of course not, but when LRGp have gone to the FIA over a year ago and asked 'would this be legal?' and been told 'yeah, it's legal' and quite possibly asked a few more times 'Are you sure this is legal, cos it's costing us money to develop' and being told each time, 'Yeah, not a moveable part that affects the aerodynamics directly, it's legal' to then be told that actually, it's illegal is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

I seriously doubt this is a back track on the Lotus system in isolation. I expect this decision has come following the FIA seeing a number of other devices developed in the same vein that open up a can of worms.

I doubt we will get the full details, but deeming a device legal and then illegal within a week without any other information being involved is pretty unlikely.

Just a tiny bit, I'd imagine it's cost them a fair amount to develop being a small team without a insane budget, It's got to hurt having it declared illegal just before they are about to actually use it.

Just hope they haven't developed other areas of the car around this system as it could be damaging to the start at the very least of their season.

didnt only charlie whiting tell them it was legal? maybe its because their systems was seen to be raising the front of the car down the straights at the young driver test and not just effecting it in corners...

Its Lotus Renault, formerly Renault, not Team Lotus.

The system developed by Lotus cannot be used down the straights, it uses the forces generated when braking to adjust the ride height.

Well I didn't know that, Bloody stupid having two Lotus teams (I know Team lotus is now Team Caterham?)

Well in that case I don't really care.

If I'd actually checked the link in the op I'd of known lol.

Least all that lotus stuff is sorted now. I'd just like to see Caterham making a break away from the back of the pack and into the mid field. Thought they had come up with something cunning here lol

Teach me to check links :p

thats not what happened at the young drivers test

Can you provide some details of what did then? Driver controlled ride height is flat out banned, so there would be little point in Lotus testing a part that isn't legal, and is also different to the part this thread is all about. Not to mention the device that has been banned has been stated as being the same that they ran in November, a passive reactive ride height system.

Unless Lotus tested a second device that everyone seems to have missed?
