I built my brand new PC two weeks ago and reused my old 1TB HDD from my old build (which was built in 2009).
The HDD spent two days out of a case and wrapped in a anti static bag and was safely stored.
However, since day one in my new build the hard drive has been making very loud grinding noises. When I first boot it for a hour it makes a loud grinding noise but after this time the noise seems to die down with the occasional scratch/grind every 5 minutes or so. In my old build it never used to make such a sound
It will do this throughout the day and when I scan my computer with my anti virus, the grinding starts again and gets so bad it sounds like its going to blow up. It also does this if I was waiting at a loading screen of a game.
I know this is not a fan issue because I have located the sound and checked that there are no wires in the way of the fans.
Is this a sound of a dying hard drive? I hope not, I really can't afford another one =/
Thank you in advance
