Is it just a bloke thing to like shoes that make a nice loud tap when you take a step?

Nothing beats the sound of my size 10s slapping the ground as I stride through Paddington station in a busy rush hour. There isn't anything quite like it to make your presence immediately known to all around you.

That is all

Sir you are man of distinction but little wit I fear. I'd wager you've never faced down a badger in the middle of spring nor torn the loin cloth from a begger in order to wipe your brow.

Does it not sound like your wearing high heels?

Don't forget the cloth cap for the coins when you do a number. :p

Haha, I took a fairly long absence from OC. Glad to know things haven't changed in the interim.

C'mon- you can't all tell me that you go into the shop and ask for a nice quiet pair of shoes so that you can blend into the crowd and be stepped on by oblivious tourists?

A mans shoes say a lot about him. If they are loud then he has hidden shallows. If they are meek then he is a man of principle and valour. The discerning gent would never presume to draw attention to his presence, he would simply glide amongst the crowd to be noticed only by the discerning ladies of course.

I actually think 'tappy' shoes sounds pretty girly. In fact sometimes if I'm in the gents and hear somebody walk in with 'tappy' shoes I occasionally think "hang on, did I go into the womens by mistake?" even if I'm at the urinals :p

That said, I see the advantage of people hearing you coming. I'm a fast walker and am quite often unintentionally shoulder-barged by people swerving just as I'm about to overtake them on the pavement :(

This is your first thread after coming back from a "long absence".

Indeed, being a discerning gentleman I used to glide amongst the crowd and only reply to existing threads. My tappy shoes have helped me turn over a new leaf and become a man who doesn't conform to the social standards of quiet loafers and as such I've started my first thread.

Welcome to the new me.

Well your humour is certainly......dry! Huehuehue :)

I'll get my coat

The only problem I find with a lot of tappy shoes is that they offer very little grip.

So when walking through a busy station with polished floors one must be careful not to slip and fall, lest the once sought after attention tappy shoes brought into your life gets turned up to 11 as all the common loafer wearers snigger into their coffee cups and smirk in disdain.

better quality shoes make more noise..good quality leather sole should be stiffer than a cheaper rubber sole

saying that..I have 2 pairs of loakes..and my brogue boots have a rubber sole and they are my favourites by a long way!
